Thread: N-gage QD audio quality

    Question N-gage QD audio quality

    hi,
it goes like this.. i've been using my mobiles since my prehistoric Nokia 5510 as a music system by connecting them to a set of amplified speakers via a 2.5mm to 3.5 mm stereo adapter.
5510 gave a acceptable audio output and the mp3 quality was excellent.
Now i'm doing the same thing with Ngage QD on which i've tried both UltraMP3 and Oggplay..
I connected it to amplified speakers in the above mentioned way....
the mp3's are playing ok except for the fact that the low frequencies (bass, thumping souds) are altogether missing.
    I wish to know...
    1. Is it the same with all symbians without a nokia mp3 player ( i know it is the same with 6600)
    2. Can this be somehow circumvented by using any other player or format other than mp3 or ogg

The missing low frequency sound indicates there is some problem with the mp3 reproduction. It may be due to hardware issue or may b purely due to the players used (ultramp3 & oggplay)

    thanx for reading

simple, the qd only offers mono output, ngage offers stereo.
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

the problem is neither with software or the hardware, its the mp3 files you are using, the n-gage supports single channel mp3 files(mono) only, the problems you describe happen when you play a dual channel mp3 file(stereo). you just need to re-encode the mp3 files to mono and then all the audio will be there on the QD

    hi ,
    thanx for replying

i understand that QD has mono output not stereo...
i can live with a mono output but not with the bass-less "tinny" type of sound i'm getting.

i've also tried using mono encoded, stereo encoded, encoded at various bitrates and frequencies MP3's but of no avail... however was the mP3 encoded, the playback is still the same... NO BASS.

i use dbpoweramp for encoding mp3's

also, nokia 5510 also offers a mono output not stereo but the output quality is excellent with the SAME mp3's i use for QD.
