Such a Small Problem (I Think)

Hi yall.

I have searched these forums for days and i have found no solution to my problem.
- I have wired up a standard Dejan Flasher for my 3310.
- I connect it probperly and all, run Rolis 478 and goto read memory.
- It asks to press power briefly, so I do.
- It waits for an TX to go high, but does not recieve that
- "Wait for boot counter accept (Phone TX = High)"
-Then comes up with "Preloader Boot Error".

The connection to the phone is fine, i can use it with my data cable, and so the phone is fine. I have used many programs such as kNok, that starts "Bootloader" and then notifies that it "Cannot Prepare Phone".
Standard Dejan Flasher announces that "Boot Load Failed".

Please everyone can u give me some hints on what the hell could b the problem!

Try to set LPT port to ECP mode in BIOS

sadly to say, i have tried all modes with the LPT port setting, even set an IRQ, still no luck.

Is your flasher cable build on 74HC14 ??

Yeah, it sure is Al.
Thats the standard chip for the Dejan Flasher cable isn't it ?

I've attatched the circuit diagram that i used.
I have checked this circuit over and over again, i am pretty sure that everything is fine.

The circuit is Ok. If MBUS/FBUS cable works with your phone try connect 74HC14 to external power supply (+5V too high, but it works) and also try to press power ON button quickly several times

Would a external power supply of 3.7V 355mA be adequate to supply th 74HC14? This is the standard 3310 Nokia 240V Charger. Should I connect this into my flasher circuit as another power suppy ?

Also, if u think i should, would i remove the power supply from the parallel port that connects to the flasher circuit ?

I think 3.7V will be Ok.

i've seen the tutorial of dr.Bizar about flashing. he said that when you are flashing, and prompted to "power on shortly..." just insert the charger jack(of course the charger shld be powered). the charger will supply constant current to the phone and your flashing will succeed.

but, if the problem seems to be on powering the 74HC14, follow the steps posted by Al, m sure it will work!!!

if connecting external power wont still work.. try changing the IC chip... its prone to ESD.. (I also had that problem)

esd on 74HC14 is not actually a problem,
74HC14 has its diode clamp protection(based on its tech spec) so that it will protect itself from esd's.

actually, i created my flasher using the parallel connector and directly soldered the 74HC14 to its pins, i don't use pcb. that proves the protection of IC from esd. also, i didn't use an esd-wrist grounding, i soldered the parts including the ic with my bare hands holding them.

just based on my own experience.

not too sure what i did to get the whole thing working...
but oh well...

I bought a new chip, it didnt work AT ALL! My original one held up and i good...
