    Unhappy Unlocking 8310 / 7650??

    Hi,

My housemate has a 8310 under vodaphone. Last month he thought the handphone was stolen while he was on the bus and had reported it. As it was insured, it was no problem for him to get his replacement phone after about 2 weeks.

Just 2 days before, he found his phone in one of jacket. He tried to sell his older phone twice but both times they were sent back. It seems that it has been blocked. Neither his original or new SIM work with the old phone. I've also tried my SIM on his phone, to no avail.

We suspect that maybe Vodaphone has managed to block the phone from their end after it was reported stolen. Is there a way to unlock the phone. Afterall it is practically brand new.

If it's possible to unlock the phone. What kind of hardware and software is necessary? I had no idea this was possible until i came across this forum. Ahhh ... the wonders of modern technology.

    Please help. Cheers.

sounds like theyve blacklisted the imei. unfortunately, you can;t change it as yet, as imei on dct4 phones cannot be changed. the only thing he can really do is sell it to someone in a different country, as it should work in other countries

give vodafone a ring and say you found it. or summit , or take it to nokia and say it broke and they may replace it

I see. Hmm ... I didn't think they can remotely disable a phone like that. What's a DCT4 phone mean anyway?

DCT4 is the name given to Nokias new range of phones. Some of the firmware is now encoded whereas in DCT3 (3210, 8210 etc) it wasn't. IMEIs cannot be changed, as yet, until somebody figures out how to! IMEI changing may be illegal in some contries, for obvious reasons.
