    GPRS on 3650

    Hi,

I have a 3650, and wanted to play arround with GPRS
Now, i have 2 GPRS access points, 1 for MMS, and 1 for internet
    now..
1 I selected the internet one as default in services
2 I selected activate GPRS as available, the symbol comes up
but when i want to wap, it still wants to make a connection to the internet one, so I suppose it connects to the MMS one

How do I make sure that the internet GPRS access point is default in the whole phone..so that it connects to the right one when i activate connect when available in the settings
    also..in settings->connection->GPRS->access point
what do i have to fill in there (i find it weird that its a text box, not a select box)

also..i noticed..when u make an access point ..and u don't fill in the homepage .. u can't sellect the access point in services (is this a bug or so..didn't seem like a required field)

Wanna play a bit with GPRS on my prepaid card..receiving mails etc...just gotta make sure that the connection remains alive also
(i have to pay for each session, 100kb included, if it goes over 100 a new session starts, but if I start 5 session of 5 kb i pay 5 times)

    GPRS

    Hi W0rf,

The symbol G that appears is just to let you know that gprs is available in that area and that it's recieving signal hence the fone is being updated using gprs. It's not actually connected and transmitting until the Square surrounds the G.

In theory, the only differences between ur wap and mms access points will be the home page. (although this may not be true)

    w.r.t- settings->connection->GPRS->access point

this access point is the one that you would use to access GPRS from ur laptop desktop or palm/ppc.

Basically if you activate the built in modem IR, or initiate a BT dial-up netwroking command to the fone for GPRS then the APN that you type here will be the one that it uses.

You need to talk to ur network to see what it is ("internet" is a common APN) and also ensure that you have the service enabled.

The homepage is a required field for wap and mms access.

IF you want to make sure the connection stays alive then connect to wap and the square appears around the G. Now it should remain active unless you tell wap to disconnect or if you hold the red fone key (end call) for a couple of seconds....a single press won't affect it though. As long as ur mms settings is just a different homepage than it will also use the current connection.

you might have to use a different APN completely to use the email in the messaging app. I do (the internet APN set up as an access point) but it's network dependant too.

well, i have two access points u see

1 for mms, and 1 for gprs
the accesspoint name, and gateway are different too..
and internet doesn't work with mms (tried)
but..the phone seems to use the mms as standard access point
    (when choosing..connect when available)
    and I don't like that

yeah, an option is to manually connect to the internet gprs server indeed..and let the connection be.

I'll experiment some more I guess.
Now I can get email working damned and choose the right access point (internet wap grps) .. might be the out server that ain't a good smtp server

    got system error

so maybe i need another APN too that allows me to send/receive emails, and maybe my APN is for wap only

Yeah you usually need a different APN to use email and modem functions (including email through the messaging app)

You also need to make sure that ur smtp server soesn't require you to dial in to it...that is, that the server can be accessed from any account. Many ISP's ensure that their email isn't taken advantage of in this way.

you can create a normal dial-up APN too if you wanted to try ur email account.

But I can't see what exactly you mean by the mms APN bein the default. You can set the wap AP to be default for wap. Whatever you do though it will always ask you if you wish to connect.

when you choose connect when available it's not actually connecting to an Access point. It just confirms that gprs is indeed available and starts talking to the network.

not until you ask it to connect to wap or send an mms or use an app that requires access will the phone ask you to choose the AP that you wish to connect to.

    Hope that makes sense.

i will need an abo, not a prepaid card before they will let me email

too bad I guess, And yeah, thats was the kind of explanation I was looking for, it still asks if I want to connect to the server even when i set it to connect when avaible

only thing I wonder...I suppose my provider will charge as another session when i switch access points...

anyway..maybe later on I'll get me an abo so I can email
