Thread: 8210 with draining battery

  1. #1
I have a 8210 that drains its battery. even when its turned off the battery runs down in about 16 hours. The problem is not the battery, since it is a new one.
Have update mcu, ppm and eeprom but didn't solve problem.

Anyone an idea as to what kind of hardware problem this might be?

    Hey Peter

I've got some of the same problem.
I have to 8210 wich I bought to new batteries for.

One of the phone is using more battery then the other one.
This was normal i thought because there had been some water damage on that phone.

But when i used the menus 20-23 in netmonitor mode. I saw that both phones used equally much power. (3mA in stanby and ca 400 when calling) so i guess there is something else??

I do want to try the energy calibration in wintesla, but I cant get my cracked versions work

So check for water damage (around the power ic)
And check the power consumption in menue 23.

    Hi all!!

I have(had) the same problem. Battery was empty after 5h, so I bought a new one (with 1000mAh). This battery was empty after 16h, too. I opened the case of the 8210 and saw that nearly every IC has some kind of salt on every pin.

I bought it used on ebay, so I don't know the "history" of this 8210 and this salt. I guess it was flooded with alcohol, sweat or condensed moisture. The seller said that this mobile phone was 100% working (hahaha) (.

I analysed the impedance between the "plus" and "minus" pin of the phone: It was 400 Ohm, that's pretty low, I think. So I extracted the PCB from the case & everything else and flooded it in 94% alcohol, while I was carefully brushing over the PCB and the devices. After the first time I did this, everything was working OK and the problem got better but not good enough, so I flooded it again totally and let the PCB lay in the alcohol about 1,5h. After I dried and assembled it, the vibra and LEDs were on all the time, then I touched the SMD IC (TM23A) and it was really hot. I guess the beeper wasn't dry enough, so that the driver IC was nearly short-circuited. After the last flooding the 8210 had an impedance of about 10 ohm, which is absolutely low, but after the SMD-IC melted it now has over 7kOhm, so I think the first problem is solved, but now I need to replace the LED driver IC, because the LEDs are lighted all the time.

I hope I could help you...perhaps it is the same problem you have!
Measure the impedance between the + and - pin! My phone
drains current (??, sorry don't know the right word), while it is switched off, too (that was before I flooded it with alcohol)!

    Best regards,

    Thanks for helping me guys

I have actually messured the current the phone is using in different states:

Of state is about 0,12mA witch is wery good i think
on state with no net 2-4 mA variates
on state with net up to 100mA (pulses) not good

So i belive it is a error with the ccont ore battery controller chip?
I vill do some more mesuremet when I got time

Maybe I will try to change PA and/ore cean it with alcohol for a longer period of time.

    Be vell
    Regards
    Kjetil
