Nokia numbering system & OS versions

Hi all,

Thanx for a helpful and professionally run forum. Replies to the questions I am going to ask have been posted before, but I was wondering if there has been any updates:

- Is there REALLY any system to the Nokia model numbering (e.g. 3100)
- I am trying to establish which phones are similar in terms of firmware and directory structure - is there any system to this? Does anybody know the implications of the OS "names" such as RH23, RM37 and NPL-5 to mention a few?

Any help is much appreciated.

as long as I understand, their is no pattern easily visible. The main distinction can be understood in terms of propietary software and real operative system, this is non symbian and symbian phones.

The next step, I think, would be taking all phone models and see what do they allow the user to do. But, I think, even that, you'd find a pattern with holes with models like 3650 (I think) that are as capable as a 6600... so, the pattern could be there, but it will have holes...

As for the firmware designations, that is a mistery to me.
