Problem inserting code

1) Nokia 6600 locked on Vodafone UK.
Insert SIM card displayed.
When I try to insert the code pressing the '*' nothing appears. Can be the key not working?
2) If I use a Vodafone IT SIM it starts but as soon as main screen appears it automatically switches off itself without displaying nothing.
Can you help me?

Sounds like a faulty firmware. If the phone is under warranty, take it to a Nokia Service Centre and get it flashed. If it's not under warranty anymore, take it to a repair shop, and they will flash it for a small fee, max 30 usd (and no, you can't flash it yourself since you need specific and expensive equipment).
