i have an 8290 and the display on it went out, apparently this is a commoon problem. if i squeeze the phone it comes on and i can use the phone as long as i remain squeezing it. this is a real PITA though. especially while typing text messages. i was wondering if anyone knows if the lcd display from the 6590 would work in my 8290. i would like to use the 6590 display because it is a higher res and clearer, it is also slick and has the nice white-blue ion type lighting.

thanks for any help!

Nope because as you say the screen is a higer res and the 8290 wil not be able to utilise it and also the screen is a completely different shape and also the colour is not generated by the screen but by 4 leds.

The screen problem is a very easy task to repair. It's a plastic connector that is conductive which is causing this problem.
At least here in sweden it's a part that costs less then 5USD. The job takes about 5-10min to complete and the phone is as new again.
That is if you don't want to switch the display entirely as you discribed.
