That use to happen to my old 6310.
The little padlock appeared sometimes, not following any logic pattern. I took it in to the NOKIA Service Centre, and it did not happen again after they installed the latest Firmware version.
They said it was a feature that was not used yet by my Network Provider (Spanish TELEFONICA MoviStar).... So basicaly, NO, I don't know why it appears... :D

the padlock symbol started appearing on my old 6110 many years ago and when i phoned my network operator to find out what it meant they didnt have a clue!!, never did manage to get rid of it, but it worked perfectly well with it and without it

See, that's the thing about this little padlock. The telco knows nothing about it but it shows up on Nokia phones. Doesn't anyone find it wierd, if not apalling that even Nokia doesn't know wtf it is? :-x
I raised my concern Nokia themselves but no one there can give me straight answer as to why it shows up all of a sudden. Does anyone else feel the same about this? :-?
geez. :-(
