i have 3310 that will say "enter pin-code" normally, but after minute or 2, it will say "insert sim-card".
sometimes it will say "sim-card rejected" after entering correct pin-code.

does somebody know what will cause this?
sim-cards i have tested on 3310 works ok in other phones, so it has to be hardware problem, sw changing not helping.
it was v04.06, i upgraded to 05.59, thinking it would help but no.

cleaned all pins, make sure it has connect, but now i'm thinkin some chip is not working properly.

i can't change any ic's, don't have hardware for that, nokia service says no warranty and can't repair.

It can be CCONT

weird.
replaced BMC-3 battery with BLC-2 from my 5510 that had some charging-problems, and 3310 almost works now.

battery don't have it's maximum capacity, and phone will sometimes turn off when voltage drops around 3.8v.
but haven't seen sim-card errors since replaced battery.

now just charging battery and let it go empty with lights on and netmonitor test 20 on.

I think you should clean up the battery contacts, SIM contacts and all contacts on PCB. I've had couple of 3310's like that. And sometimes helps reheating CCONT. ;)

i have cleaned.
yesterday it worked whole night ok, tomorrow morning changed another sim-card and got sim-card rejected.
moved sim-card a little bit, and worked again.

sim-card seems to be 0.5mm narrow than space for it.

tonight going to clean again all contacts and covers too (so dusty..)

btw, thanks for help.

I don't know if this helps, but your battery changing thing reminded me of something:

When I attach a data cable to the back of my 3315/3410 phones, the phone only reads the SIM if the battery's a thinner (Li-Ion) one, like BLC-1 or BLC-2.

If it's got a BMC-3 on it (which doesn't fit the 3315/3410 back covers BTW) I have to keep pressing the SIM with my fingers to get the phone to work w/ datacable. Otherwise it just prompts "Insert SIM card".

I think the thicker batteries force the SIM somehow, and so it looses contact.

Another thing to look for when having that sort of problem (SIM/reader contact) is wether you have tightened the phone's 6 screws in the right order. It sounds silly but sometimes if you don't follow the order recommended by Nokia in its service manuals some connectors might end up losing contact in certain situations.

Well, this is my 2 cents on your issue. Try using the thinner batt. and taking your phone apart and back together following the order proposed by Nokia. Maybe this will help (well at least it did for me!).

Hope this helps (and sorry for the long post!),

too bad in finland is not that kind of chicks like nanda...
have to check out again, yesterday noticed that 3310 will keep on having problems after i opened it.

so what's the order? first around sim-card?
blc-2 (li-ion, 5510 original) works better than bmc-3 (original ni-mh) in 3310.

there may be connection failures, or maybe power failures.

sometimes when i turn on 3310, it ask for pin, i enter it, and then it show only ok long time, then says insert sim-card.

usually it accept pin, but after a minute or so, it will get error.

those batteries are old, so maybe it would work with brand new fully loaded battery.

Hi litefun,

I tried to upload a service manual section w/ the information I'd told you about here but Nokia Free returned an error message.

I'll try and upload it to a website somewhere so that you can download it, but yes it's first around the SIM/keypad/etc (bottom of phone) then the top.

Thanks

didn't matter what order i used.
maybe should modify card holder a little bit. seems to have air between card and pins.

Just wanna share something. I have the same problem too with my customer phone. I make a wild guess by changing V203 and hey it's work. before that I try to measure the voltage at sim pad (pin +v and gnd) and found out the voltage is higher than 3 volt. After changing V203, the voltage is back to normal around 3 volt just like other phone. And then after boot up it is okay!

umm.. if voltage is higher than it should, sim-card will be rejected (maybe even blown).

i tried one of these newer sim-cards in old 2010, phone said sim-card rejected. didn't work any more after that in any phone.

somebody told me that older phones had +5v for sim-card..

i'm going to check voltage, and try to get some manuals, but still don't change any parts because don't have hardware for that.

oh.. i haven't tested voltage.. some things just will take time to do :)

sim pad measured. max i got was +0.9V... any ideas?
something IS broken, if there should be +3V.

hmm.. this is weird.
updated to v 05.87, thinking if it might help, but no.

but now i know more about problem.

when battery bars drop to 2 bars, it wil start saying "sim-card error", "insert sim-card", "sim-card rejected".

and netmonitor test 20 shows ~+3.7V.
so, if battery is +3.8V or more, it works.

now, any ideas what component is broken?
i don't believe it's that battery, it works 100% in 5510, and other 3310 i have tested.

with 3 battery bars it started to lose network.

so if there's some components common to rx/tx parts & sim reader and one little almost needless component is broken?
