Dunno if this has been mentioned before, sorry if it has:
I make a contact from the address book and Contacts.cdb gets bigger by a couble of byte.
I delete this contact and Contacts.cdb gets bigger again!
I have a 250 kb Contacts.cdb file and it's getting bigger and bigger!

What the heck?

heres what i do : i have 5 groups with rings asigned to them and i just reasign the rings to the groups and by the time i get to group 4 my contacts file gets to 156 kb it also works if you edit some of your contacts (no need to delete anything just add some details and then remove them) it still remains a mystery as to how symbian handles the phonebook

Just done the "Note" trick for ONE contact and Contacts.cdb shrunk to 159kB! This thing is crazy! Anyway, the trick does the job, just add and remove a Note (watch out, only works for a note, it's the last option) and the file will "reset" to its original (?) size.
Thanx to Xp | qX.

Maybe he means that it's just a wrong counter and that the file is not really that big. However, free space is reported also wrong so we cannot use it all.

That's the nature of Symbian OS DBMS system. When you delete something from the database it does not necessarily mean the database gets smaller. Only when something triggers compacting of the database, its size gets smaller. Obviously the note thing mentioned here triggers compact.

You should know that because you seem to be so smart about everything else here, too ;-)
