 I need help!

Don't know if you can help me here, but i'm trying to get an old BT Cellnet simcard out of a Phillips 'U' phone and put it into an ex-vodaphone nokia 3330. Every time I switch on the phone, it says the 'sim card registration failed'. My other Cellnet/o2 pay as you go card works fine in the 3330, so I don't understand!

I've managed to get my hands on an SP lock code generator from http://mobile.box.sk to unlock the phone, and it needs the imei and the network id (which I have). It's also asking for the GID1 Hexadecimal value, the GID2 Hexidecimal value and the IMSI subscriber specific part, which I don't know and don't know how to get. Am I barking up the wrong tree here or is there any way for me to find these values out?

The 3330 is unlocked

BUT there is no way of making a U SIM card work in anyother phone.

Thats the way it is. Either buy a new SIM card or phone O2 and complain they may may give you a new SIM that will work in the 3330 but you will lose you Friends and Family thing.

The philips U phones were the ones that actually stored the credit on the eeprom in the phone. (And were scammed mercilessly a couple of years ago ;) )
The SIM Card and the IMEI number of the phone are both used to register the phone on the network for the philips, so hence the network will see the incorrect imei (Ie: the 3330 as opposed the the Philips) and not allow access.

Thanks for the advice. I thought it might be something like that, but I wasn't sure, and it was driving me insane.

The sim card is so old it won't take network service upgrades, so it's still registering texts at 5p a pop, when every other user gets charged 12p... still, I was hoping I could upgrade the phone coz recent research said phones of that generation are 80% more likely to give you cancer than modern phones, and it's my GF's phone...

If the registration only requires the SIM and the Philips phone's IMEI, maybe you should try changing your 3330's IMEI to the Philips' one.

Try that anyway.

But please not that this may be illegal.

Something else in the U phone is checked.
