Hi evreyone....

I tried to use my 7650 as a webcam and I'am almost there. But I still have a few porblems:

1st of all: I use remote s60. I dowlaoded it from a yahoo group and it says its cracked. But I still get a warning that the remote s60 version on my n7650 is a trial version. So i still get this anoying 'remote s60 demo' logo in the middle of the screen. Can annyone help me with this problem....

2nd: I use Softcam tho simulate a video device on my comp. But I still didn't find a full version of this software. Can annyone send me this util. to my E-mail ( [email protected])

3rd: Afther I use the screencapture device of softcam and place it over the remote s60 utillity you're able to see the, what the cam of the n7650 sees (when running the video rec of nokia)

but when I want to select the softcam simulated videocam in MSN, MSN will crash.....

So does annybody has anny ideas about how to solve these problems?????

If your using the "cracked version" from shizo's site, make sure it isn't running in JPG mode.
- Options, Color Mode, 4096 (and not JPEG).

thx for the reply.

But it was already on 4096 color mode.
I think it has to do with the software on the phone.....
Look at the bmb file i atached. Here you can see what I meen.
its that annoing 'Remote S60 DEMO' sing in the middle of the screen.

And is there sombody with the softcam virtual camera software (compleet version)

@Jostiekiller: You probably forgot to copy the .app file over the first one since this is not a repacked crack.

Use seleq and go in system/apps/remotes60 and do an edit/copy from inbox (fist send the .app file via bt or ir of course) and just paste.

BTW: I've been searching for the same type of app for about two weeks now and I just want to say THANK YOU! This will probably be of big help to a lot of Nokiafree users that don't have a webcam (like me for example)

Installing and testing it right now!

Works great, the webcam itself exists in the Sysytem AS-IS.

Tried it with two instant messengers so far - msn and Yahoo.

Yahoo works great.
Msn hangs each time in the camera settings menu.
(on winxp with all the updates)

Looking for other alternatives...
(downloading & installing them)

did the sn works fine ?

btw, i had a webcam (creative, it sucks actually)... and have been using it with my netmeeting and yahoo messenger without any problem... however i wasn't able to use softcam along with yahoo messenger eventhough i already choose softcam as my device (in yahoo)... any idea on how to make this work ? do i have to uninstall my webcam first ?

n3o2501
17-04-2003, 01:24 PM
Well, probably so - maybe it can't handle two cams at once..
But isn't that a BIT better than not being able to use ONE at all (like in msn, hehe).

Installed Webcam32 and WebcamXP, both work fine.

I indeed forgot to place the app file in the remotes60 directorie on my phone. So thanks n3o 2501.
I looked on the site of softcam and in their list of supported software there was no msn. However it does work with microsoft netmeeting but nobody use that annymore. you could start withebord in msn while you and the 2nd person has netmeeting running and hopfully netmeeting finds the 2nd person. But then you are confrontated with a lot of trial and error and to go through al those passes evrey time you want to use your 'webcam' isn't really handy. So im also still looking for other software that is compatible with msn. So hopefully whe will find something soon.

Does anybody else has other ways to use your 7650 as a webcam, please let us know, or has annybody a other kind of software to create a virtual video device that is compatible with MSN

Greetings from Jossie:grin: :-D :) :)

Well Yahoo! messenger works fine with the webcam. I just had a video conversation with a friend - he was using a logitech cam and I used my 3650.

But if you use msn only, try webcamXP (trial or pro, makes no difference in usability) - and it sets up a server on your pc ... which a person can go to and view your cam in a popup ... which he has near the msn screen and whalla - a video conference, hehe.

Cheers,

could you gusy elaborate more on these...

19-04-2003, 11:33 AM
1. install s60 (.sis) on your phone
2. install s60 (.exe) on your pc
3. install virtual cam program (softcam.com)
4. connect to your phone using s60
5. use softcam screencapture and set to movie mode

for yahoo messenger, just start your webcam and select softcam as your camera device.

hopefully that helps

btw, i've post the sn# for softcam above...

thyx for the tip for using webcamXP however I have some problems with using this programme. This may sounds stupied, but I have problems to get my videostream to another user. Can you give me an Idee how to use this app.

Greetings Jossie

What stream? You are not uploading video, man, you are uploading a continuous sequence of still images (that have nothing to do with each other).

What this program does is it creates a quickly setup webserver on your computer that runs on port 8080 by default. It is then ready to serve anyone that connects to you via that port. That is all - there are of course a lott of really nifty thingies like picture effects (invert, blur, really basic shit) and time/date/sig watermarking the image, you can have a quick private chatroom ON the site (again, a basic script that reloads the dynamicly built HTML), you can have a 'file sharing' space (looks in a dir and offers everything you have for download). If you have more webcams connected, you can serve up to 5 simultaneous sources at once. Maybe I've forgotten something but that's generally just about it.

This app is not for uploading the image sequence to a FTP. That's done by the other program I listed, webcam32 ... works better if you have a lot of connected users and a crappy connection :}

May the SymbianForceOS be with you,

I assume you guys are using Bluetooth.

I use IR and distance would be a problem, it has to face IR device.

juanl888
23-04-2003, 06:35 PM
i know this sounds stupid, but how do you connect your phone to you pc?

Jostiekiller
23-04-2003, 07:33 PM
I use Bluetooth to connect my 7650 to my PC.

I think it is possible to use your IR (as long as you can run Remote s60) but then your 7650 must face your IR device. And a IR connection isn't that fast so I am affraid that youre get a verry laggy immage on your PC. (even with a BT connection its a bit laggy, but I'm not sure that this is caused by the BT connection)
So for a 'good'working 'webcam' you should use a BT connection.

Annyway a BT connection has a lot more advantige, you can freely walk around your house while your 7650 is connected. (MSN with friends while watching your TV):D :D :D :D
I use a MSI usb bluetooth adaptor. It was the cheapest i could find. Here in the Netherlands I paid less than 30 euro's for it.

Greetings Jossie

Same here - Bt. I doubt you can have a decent web stream with IR - apart from the ~1m limit and the fust-face-each-other limit.

The stream via IR is 115 kbps - divide that with 8 and you have kBps and divide that with a bmp file the size of the phone and whalla. You don't come up with Fps but Spf (seconds per frame).

I use LevelOne's BT adapter.
http://mimovrste.domenca.com/trgovina/izdelek.php?id=3884&hilite=bluetooth

Connect via PCSuite's mRouter app.
BTW: I use the grayscale stream, cause anything else is looks like playing unreal tournament 2003 on a 286 :}

by the way, thnx n3o2501 for reply on my question.
I already sorted out the basic settings but when you create a 8080 port with a optional http (IP) adres. But only peoly from my network where able to connect to my webcam. People from the internet weren't able to connect. This is my problem.

I will try webcam32. maybe this wil work better / easyer.

@Jostiekiller: hehe, had the same problem. I think this is some serious bug shit in windows since it can't recognise it's own IP adress. I'm behind a router myself and I have three different IPs in my local network ... and one in the outer world.

You are probably gonna laugh at the solution, since it's that simple - goto www.whatismyip.com and look at your REAL ip address. Add :8080 at the end and whalla - there you have it :}

(problem solved ... hopefully)

um... which is better?
webcam32 or webcamxp?

n3o2501
03-05-2003, 05:16 PM
WebcamXP if you plan on just having it on your own PC and having some1 stream the cam feed from you ... from time to time.

On the other hand, webcam32 is much better if you plan to upload the same pic to a ftp server and serve it from your site as such. Since the webhost has definetely a much better bandwidth when confronting a lot of users...

Like some of you, I have problems using webcamxp. No problems accessing myself through the internet, but if other people will access it through the net, the webcam is offline, as they say. But if i will access it, using my browser, (actual surfing), it works.

n3o2501
12-07-2003, 02:25 AM
Well, make sure your firewall sends the port trough it. If you have a firewall (which you probably do) try making the server to access trough some other port ... or if you have admin access to it, define that port as a virtual server to your network IP.

If both options don't work or if you don't knw what I'm talking about, then rest assured that you won't get it to work. Try using some other program - like the one that uploads a series of jpegs which you combine with a javascript for similar results. It's called Webcam32.

silab
12-07-2003, 02:31 AM
I just have a software firewall and i shut it down when testing this just to see if its blocking it. But thats not the reason. I dont have any other programs using port 8080 but i will still try to use different ports

schizo
12-07-2003, 01:26 PM
aint 8080 for apache tomcat???
that is the port that i use for my tomcat.

silab
12-07-2003, 02:13 PM

Hello songpolk
I was wondering what software you have for use on win98?
Since Softcam 1.4 only works with win2k/XP.

n3o2501
13-07-2003, 06:49 AM
@patwik: There is also a version for Windows 9x of Softcam. Check it out.

@silab: Forgot to add that, sorry. Yes, whatismyip.com really is a wonderful tool :D

schizo
13-07-2003, 09:17 AM
if you are using xp, go to start, in run type command or cmd, then enter ipconfig

if lower, go to start, in run type win winipcfg

n3o2501
14-07-2003, 11:01 AM
Shizo, if you are in a network, then typing ipconfig will only give you the lan ip address. Which you can access only if you are in your local lan. The only sollution is whatismyip.com or a similar site that does that.

For example - ipconfig gives me this:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

And my real IP is different since 192.x.x.x is one of the subnet masks reserver for lan usage only.

Cheers.

backstar
14-07-2003, 12:57 PM
Whilst your talking about Ipconfig, I may as well add if you include the /all switch you get even more usefull info e.g:

ipconfig /all

schizo
14-07-2003, 05:04 PM
well i have that option in my site, i can see all the ip addresses that are visiting my site...

ill put that option in the users control panel so you can see what your ip is...

if that is alright with you guys

n3o2501
14-07-2003, 11:44 PM
@backstar: Yes, true, but among all the additional ethernet adapter data it still can't give you your external IP ... in terms of usability.

@shizo: You are still targetting very few people with this and whatisyourip.com takes like 0.01 seconds to load (while your page does not). And it's only a doubleclick away.

If your not on the pc connected directly to your router then it won't. It should do if run the command from your webserver though.

Is there any program to use the 3650 as a mic for PC using blootooth? In this way anyone could talk using e.g. MSN messenger or another program without the limitation of the headset, just using the 3650 so you can move freely within your room :D

Does it work with a 6600?
