from memory, the ringer on an8310 is soldered on,so give the joints a bit of a touch with a n iron and see if unit has a dry joint. Some ring tones that are downloaded are very quiet when used on a phone-dunno why but it just happens!,and you didnt say if all ring tones were quiet!
have you ;looked inside the phone to see if any fluid damage has resulted on top of phone as I see alot of thishappening on 8310's for some reason. If so give it a good bath with isopropynol and see what happens. You might have killed the ringer! if no luck then iether replace ringer or adjust software.Good luck dude:D

8310 is very prone to software crashes in which the phone works normally except for minor faults like no ring tones and sometimes no display.
u dont have to change anything, just flash the fone if u know how to :D :D :D :D

just a short note to hurricane- I have repaired about 50 8310's and have yet to get one with a software issue.-all are either ingressed or have taken a big hit.Sometimes it is safer to open the unit than just flash something because it won't work.As you well know, flashing can be fatal in the wrong hands, but having a quick look to see if the ringer has physical issues[water damage.or dryjoints{a multimeter will find out!!} ] will not damage a unit as fatally.I sense flashing is many peoples favourite action on this site, and most times are spot on, however we should not immediately jump to software issues before having a look at physical problems. It is like giving a baby a shotgun to get an inexperienced person to try & flash a unit!!
You are correct on the 8310's having a bit of an issue with their software, but let's get everyone to look at a schematic and look /learn about their phones b4 learning how to alter software!
Stay cool:D :D :D

To hurricane again-you are spot on mate!! -I am working in an isolated area for a couple of months as of the next two weeks, however when I get back,I have a bucket load of questions about re-flashing that I would like to ask [some will be pretty silly so be patient!!], so if you have the patience, let me know. I have most of the software availible, and have had mixed success with flashing, some dying and some miraculous. However I have no real idea why either did what[hope ya not confused].
Maybe you have the answers to some questions that I have, and I may even have a couple for you.!!
I will be in an area with no internet or cellular coverage,so no real repairs will be done for a while- but I hope the surf is good!
c ya in the spring time:cool: :D
