View Full Version : 7650 serious flaw?

I want to ask if anybody has heard of the same problem. In the nokia center I went, they say it's starting to be common with the 7650 (unlike the 3650).

The flaw is that the phone "hangs" at a random moment, and nothing works, you can't even shut it down because the menu doesn't pop up. The only thing you can do is pull-off the battery, but that corrupts memory, leaving the phone in a state such that it can't be reloaded with the soft at a Nokia Center.

It has happened to me twice in one month, so I'm just wondering if it's just my unit or someone has heard this one also.

Never happened to me, my fone worked flawlessly since the day i got it. The only time i had a problem with it (similar to the one you mentioned) was when i tried to install a faulty program, it really screwed up my fone, I couldn't access the menus. I had to reformat my fone, everything seemed ok except that I couldn't receive text messages (although I could send text messages). I just brought it to an authorized NSC and they upgraded the OS. Now everything is back to normal.

well... the phone is an electronic device... just think of it this way.. your pc is an electornic device.. and it does hang once in a while.... no matter what model it is.... i can safely say almost all phones have the possibility to hang...

Upgrade to higher frimware version....
It kind of solve my problem a bit before. But it still hungs in some ways. Just be sure to have a lot of free space coz' one real cause of hunging is not having enough space. ^_^x

baste :/
as a phone thats got dedicated hardware designe (unlike multipal configeration pc's) it shouldnt crash unless its got faulty software :/

i agree with the above
upgrade your firmware and if that dosnt work call nokia them selves and see what they have to say
it might be a fault with a batch? and might replace it?

I thank everybody for their answers. I just wanted to comment that my phone had 2.2 Mb of free memory, and the 4.47 firmware (updated after the first crash).

I'll try to be more careful with the software I install, as this seems to be a possible cause. It's just surprising that it can reach so easily a so helpless state. I wouldn't mind to have to reload all the soft, I can take it to a Nokia center (there's several on this city), they get to OS reloaded on 15 minutes and I get everything back on 30, so it's not very serious.

What pisses me off is that the firmware doesn't have an option to boot the phone from ROM, clear all the memory (I don't mind that) and allow you to reload everything, just like any computer.

What about that #*7350* code or how that goes. That clears everything and reloads from the rom (factory setting).

@vcespon: You got me excited there for a moment when you mentioned the firware version being 4.47.... actaully it's 4.46....lol...
and if you people are looking for a way to be able to restart your phone then look at installing a program called System tools..... (you'll find it on schizo's site)...
Every phone hangs sometimes or the other.. even my 3330 (long time ago used to hang and the Operating system on that was a really basic one).......
Cheers

Hummm, try to read my first post again. The firmare version was 4.47, as reported by the command *#0000#. It was loaded on the phone after it's first fatal crash.

I mean, I'm not trying to reset the phone, I did it several times with system tools. I'm saying that the phone, on it's own, got stuck (hang), in some screen and NOTHING could be done after that. Pressing the power button has no effect, no button does anything. So the only way ouy is to take the battery out.

But when you power on the phone again all you get is the Nokia logo and a message sating "Cannot start the phone, contact provider". A phone in this state cannot be reloaded in a Nokia Center and has to be sent to the Nokia technical service (only one in each country).

It's the second time this happens to my 7650 in one month and I'm really looking for another phone (although I can't fine one with all the things this has)

If you're looking for a new phone with lots of features, try cheking out the new smart fone. It's manufactured by HTC (I think they also manufacture the ipaq pda's). It has 32mb on board memory, with MMC expansion slot, it uses the new smartfone windows OS made by microsoft, it comes comlete with a camera and a cradle for pc synchronization.

They seem to be marketed in different countries under different brand names, but i think it's the same smart phone that's being offered by SMART Telecoms (one of the leading gsm providers in the Philippines).

I haven't tried this phone yet but it looks promising.
