Hello all,
Last night my 3650 went dead on a call, BANG just turned off no warning! Battery was fully charged. Weird things started happening a while befoe this, no ringing tone when people calling(was not on silent), operator logo vanished all of a sudden, regular lock ups, slow going into menus and shit loads more. When I tried to turn the phone on the blue Nokia logo comes up and the screen stays lit constantly but nothing more than that, no insert SIM, enter PIN code etc. etc.? Plugged charger in and no charging sign came up??
I had to send away this morning to get fixed! Will I lose all my contacts? That is the only thing I am worried about, I can live with losing all the games and apps and photos etc. but the contact will be the worst for me, all the new people I added since I got the phone, all the old ones are still on SIM. I did not send MMC card with phone, someone please tell me that contacts are saved on the MMC card :)
I am very pissed off to be honest, I don't even have the phone a month yet!! Nokia have a lot of work to do if you ask me!
Has anyone had similar experiences?
you'll lose the contacts unless you backed everything up on your mmc.. it doesn't back-up automatically

i'm aware that the contacts are stored in the phone memory... is there any way to change this default setting so that it can be stored in MMC ?... if this is impossible.. then how to backup the contacts to the MMC ?

Stupid Nokia! You would think that by deafult the contacts would be stored on the MMC! Can you guys tell me how to do this so I won't lose therm again, I'm already expecting this to happen once again, you do realise that! You live, you learn I guess!!
Thanx

Well, the only way to directly backup your contacts is to copy them to your SIM. That's the normal option in the Contacts program.
I can't check it at the moment but: aren't the contacts backed up when you make a backup of the phone? I don't know if they're accessible individually then.
Another possibility you can use is to export your Contacts (with PCsuite) to Outlook (standard function in PCsuite).
Personally I did not expect my contacts to be installed on the MMC. First of all i believe it says so in the manual that it stores it on the Phone memory. Further more It would be pretty un-user-friendly to force people to copy their contacts from MMC to Phone to new MMC (when they buy a larger MMC).
So to be safe you'd better copy the contacts to your SIM in the future.
I do agree that the 3650 (thoug I have heard some also occur on the 7650) have some problems, which are irritating. I hope it's just a temporary firmware case..
Cause i still love the phone :)

To be honest I like the phone as well! Hope problems are fixed soon. The thing is though when I put SIM card in first time it asked me to copy all contacts to phone and did not give option to copy to MMC card which is shitty!!
Putting them on MMC if backing up is not an option should be the default if you ask me!

to back up the CONTACTS to your mmc... you need:
1. file explorer (i prefer SeleQ)
2. system tools
reboot in "flight mode" (system tools) - it's like "DOS" in windows and using SeleQ, copy CONTACTS.CDB from C:\system\data\ to your drive E (mmc)
to restore that... just overwrite the contacts.cdb with the one you saved in drive E (mmc)... always do that in "flight mode"... copying contacts.cdb won't work in normal mode.
while you're at C:\system\data\ ... you can also copy CALENDAR, BOOKMARKS.DB etc.

Just set the messages to go to MMC, you do that in settings in message menu.
After that every message that you receive will be saved on your MMC card instead of the phones memory.

No Joy
I tried your method of backing up my contacts with no luck. The first time I entered flight mode, it started without a hitch. The problem was that I had SeleQ compressed with Stacker. I started it and it appeared to run ok until I tried to use the copy function. Unfortunately, the options menu would not open. I figured the was attributed to the app being compressed. So I ran Stacker and uncompressed it and tried again. Same thing. :( I then tried to reboot the phone to start over. Now when I try to start in Flight Mode it tells me to insert the SIM card.
Since I am screwed in using this method, I was wondering if there was a way to kill whatever proccess is using the contacts database so it could be copied in standard mode rather than Flight Mode. Any input would be much appreciated as I have no BT or IR connection to my phone to use the PC Suite, only a card reader.
Peace,
Eidolen

To backup phonebook, i suggest using SmartVcard. it even makes a backup of your Groups. You can export and import VCF files including Groups.

Thanks for the info Amfule, I will give it a try.
Blackfly,
That happened to me once. All i did was boot the phone without the MMC inserted. Powered it back down and put the MMC back in. Been working fine ever since. Give it a try.
Peace,

Yes,
The one thing I didn't mention is that I didn't put the MMC back in for a couple of hours though. I doubt that it makes any difference but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Maybe you could try to boot it without the MMC or SIM card. Then try putting them back in one at a time. Just a thought. Good luck.
Peace,
Eidolen

Don't feel bad... I am on my 5th phone (no, that is not a typo). I've had to replace mine 5 times now for the exact same reason you sent yours in for repair. Luckily everytime mine broke it was under the 30 day return policy at the AT&T store I purchased it at. Yes, it is a love/hate relationship with me and my Nokia 3650, but this is my final try with them... If it breaks again I will never buy a Nokia again, and, I will make sure nobody I know buys one either. If anybody has any help regarding this situation I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Yes, the same problem all 5 times... screen goes black, try to reboot, screen goes white, nokia logo pops up a couple times, screen goes white, screen goes black... won't boot up.
