Assigning Tones To Contacts Nokia 3510i

HIE THERE PEOPLE,

I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANYWAY I COULD ASSIGN RINGTONES TO THE RINGTONES WHICH I HAVE DOWNLOADED....IT SEEMS THAT ON 3510i, I CAN ONLY ASSIGN THE PRESET/DEFAULT RINGTONES WHICH CAME WITH THE PHONE TO MY CONTACTS, NOT THE ONES WHICH I HAVE DOWNLOADED, I ALSO SAW FROM VARIOUS WEBSITES REPORTED THAT THIS A NOKIA SOFTWARE PROBLEM, SO GETTING A SOFTWARE UPGRADE FOR 3510i IN FUTURE MIGHT RESOLVE THIS BUG, IS IT TRUE??PLEASE HELP, THANK YOU!!!

STRANGE... I CAN ASSIGN OTHER TONES ON MY 3510I BEFORE... I'M NOT USING 3510I NOW SO I CAN'T REALLY CHECK IT OUT.

... JUST CHOOSE RINGiNG TONE > GALLERY... THAT'S IT.

BY THE WAY, I TRIED THE WAY YOU SAID IT BUT ACTUALLY ON 3510i, THE ONLY WAY A PERSON CAN ASSIGN A RINGTONE IS BY GOING TO THE PHONE BOOK, OPENING UP CONTACTS AND ASSIGNING UP TONES FROM THERE, THERE'S SEEMS TO BE NO OTHER WAY OF ASSIGNING TONES WITHOUT OPENING UP YOUR CONTACTS IN THE FIRST PLACE, AND ALSO IN THE GALLERY MENU, ONE CAN ONLY LISTEN AND VIEW THE TONES BUT NOT ASSIGN......HOW ABOUT THAT?

Just upgrade to vesrion 4.01. This is resolved in this one...

I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD USE NOKIA 3530'S LATEST SOFTWARE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM/BUG SINCE IN MY COUNTRY (MALAYSIA), THERE IS NO TECHNICAL SUPPORT AVAILABLE FROM NOKIA FOR 3510i COZ 3510i IS NOT BEING SOLD WIDELY HERE, ONLY 3530 ARE AVAILABLE HERE....IS OK OR DO I FACE ANY PROBLEMS AFTER THIS SOFTWARE UPGRADE TOO??? As far as I know 3530 is exactly the same hardware as 3510i... so maybe u can use the same firmware... However I am not 100% sure...

Just a newbie question...
when you write "upgrade", do you mean "go to a nokia service center and ask them to upgrade your phone", or "get a flasher cable and update yourself the phone"? In the second case, where can I download from the 4.01 firmware?)

Both cases do. However I think that going to a NOKIA service center is much better because they will upgrade the phone for free while it is still in warranty. However if you wish to buy all DCT-4 flashing tools and upgrade it yourself you may find flashes here (http://www.freegsmbiz.com)

Well actually I am not using v. 4.01. But when i asked a friend of mine for the same problem he told me that when he upgraded his 3510i to v. 4.01 the problem was solved. I have not seen the phone with my eyes. May be he lied to me... however there is another version out v. 4.42 which may solve the problem...

hie people,

as everybody who uses a nokia 3510i should and would have known this common bug where u cant assign custom tones to your contacts, but u assign only the default tones which comes with phone, rite!!??

well, i have found a way to resolve this problem once and for all, without getting your phone flashed or software update, all u need is a data cable and a specific/common software....

i will explain more on this in a new thread that i will created some time in few days time to address more on this problem/bug...
