Hello :)
Please someone help me here.... I have a 6610 with sw 4.18. I want to have a simple colour logo on it. I tried many things (have no data cable... MobiMB is not an option for me!) to get it online and d/l to the phone via WAP, yet the only thing i get is "file format unknown".
The steps i tried: Direct as GIF.... d/l's but can't set as logo
rename to .nol - file format unknown
rename to .ncl - file format unknown
rename to .ota - file format unknown
Experimented with .htaccess files, mine (actually Viper's, thanks to him) looks like this:
AddType text/vnd.wap.wml wml
AddType text/vnd.wap.wmlscript wmls
AddType application/vnd.wap.wmlc wmlc
AddType application/vnd.wap.wmlscriptc wmlsc
AddType image/vnd.wap.wbmp wbmp
AddType image/vnd.nok-oplogo-color .ncl
and sits in the root folder of my (free) web account at fortunecity. Tripod does not accept a file with a DOT as beginning, thus no way to get a .htaccess in there. In any case, the phone can access that file yet can't "read" it. Can someone PLEASE help me with this issue? attached the file "havenet.gif" which i created and which matches so nicely with my wallpaper.... maybe someone of you has a web account that can access colour logos, and could upload it for me..? Thanks a million!

Hi Thanh...We meet again.
Can I ask you why you can't use an IR port with PC Suite and MobilMB? It's the best and easiest way to do anything with your phone.

I wish i could! Nokia does not import data cables to Thailand, and i use a normal PC which, of course, does not have an IrDA device.... I once bought one of those USB-IrDA devices but could not get it to work with a 8250 AND a 8310, so i was happy to find someone whom i could re-sell that thing... they are expensive, cost 1.500 Baht! A lot of $$ for something which doesn't work.... And now i am burned, and... once burned, twice shy, i don't want to go and buy the thing again to find out that it also doesn't work with the 6610 andd 7250, this time i might not find someone to buy it off me again... and the shops here don't take stuff back. I would need a IrDA which can connect to a COM port but they are not available here either, and building one on my own is also impossible because i can't get the parts... in this things, Thailand sucks. But i don't want to leave the country just to get stuff on a phone :) And, please, don't suggest me to buy a IrDA equipped laptop only for this purpose :) Send me the money and i'll do it......
I am not that filthy rich that i just can afford to waste thousands on equipment, so i have to find free ways... with WAP everything works except those #@#%$ logos. Maybe some day i will find a webhost that uses apache servers... i am hoping on the help of people here :)

Once bitten twice shy...:D :D
Anyway, if you did'nt got your 8250 and 8310 working with your IrDA port, it must have been a driver problem or so. My 6610 and 7250 both work very fine with the single IrDA I have. In my opinion you should try your hand at the IrDA again. You will make it this time I think.
And, please, don't suggest me to buy a IrDA equipped laptop only for this purpose Send me the money and i'll do it......
If I had that money, I would have myself came up to you to thailand with my working Infrared Adapter in my pocket to solve your problem. Problem Solution and Picnic - Two birds with one stone...:p

Thank you very much! But in that time i tested that thing quite extensively... it was working with basically every IR device i could get hands on, except the two Nokia's. Now i just don't trust in IrDA any more, i have also read in other forums that people around the world have problems with the "compatibility" of Nokia phones with IrDA standards.... I want to have this original Nokia data cable DKU-5 or whatever it is called, then i am on the safe side. Maybe i have someone in Malaysia who could organise one for me. Heck, if i only had a damn credit card, i would online order it as it seems to be available almost everywhere except my country!!
Whenever i get such a cable, i will buy a LOAD of cheap copycat handsfree sets and USB connectors and build copies myself which i will give to all of my friends who use such a phone. Nokia is really stupid... they miss some business here. Those phones (pop-port equipped) sell like fresh cake here....
Anyway, thanks a lot.... And possibly some day you COME here and we DO picnic :)

the usb-irda device im using has driver issues, the xp drivers that came with it will not recognize newer nokia phones. at that time i had a 6510 and 8210. it detected the 8210 fine and can work with logomanager, but it wont detect the 6510. i changed to win2000 drivers and everything went well, it detects every single phone i throw at it.
the dku-5 here is damn expensive, i saw one shop selling it for RM399!! maybe it could cost less elsewhere coz i only saw it in one shop.

i tried the .htaccess thing with my unix account on my uni's server, it didnt work, i guess the administrator disabled it or something. anyway, i tried adding the MIME type on a windows server, it worked, my phone recognized it as an operator logo.
i have ur operator logo on my server:
http://fh.no-ip.com/nokia/havenet.ncl
i dont have the server up 24/7, but i'll be online for the whole day today and during the night most of the time (malaysian time).

Vip3r, thanks a million! It really works! Ummm it just doesn't fit exactly... i could of course not find out about that earlier as i did not get that thing in the phone :) The situation: I use a wallpaper (pic of my BF) where i edited some white space in it to show the operator name (or logo). Now, i didn't know where the phone would place such a colour logo. And as a result, the text in the logo appears too high in the display. Above the white space, i mean. I can't edit the wallpaper to it, because my phone constantly cycles networks (national roaming - my home network is too weak at my office!) and either the logo (now) or the name of the other network when roaming (after i edit to the logo) will be outside the space. I created a second logo... could you... eventually.... (shy to ask that favour of you!) upload this one, too..? Pleeease........... I can't force my phone to stay on one network, so i have to "guess and try" with viewing the original and creating the new one... hopefully this one fits....
Please, i beg you, do it one more time for me... if it still doesn't fit, i will give up, i promise. Attached the file "connected.gif" which is the new logo.....
Thank you so much.... your Thanh

i have found another solution for this problem while working with my assignment. you need to have a php capable webhost for this though, im using tripod.co.uk. since i cant mess with htaccess, i used php to send the MIME type to the browser.
first u have to convert the image to png coz gif image manipulation functions have been removed from php due to legal issues. i used thanh's operator logo as an experiment, saved the file as connected.png and created a php script named connected.php. both files are uploaded into the same directory.
code for connected.php:
<?php
header("Content-type: image/vnd.nok-oplogo-color");
$image = imagecreatefrompng("connected.png");
imagepng($image);
?>
to get the logo, just access the php script from ur phone. my script is at http://members.tripod.co.uk/tonmj/nk/connected.php
the code can be modified to accept filenames so u dont have to create a script for every logo but i think i better get back to my assignment now, heheh :)

Why dont you just Host a web server on your PC .....its not difficult to setup ??? you can download Apache 2.0.45 and install it ....its already WAP compatable just have to add a couple mime types to get it to send the logos
thats what i did ...now i can host web pages and wap on the same server

been there, done that. i got IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003. in my previous post, ive hosted the file on my server. im just trying to solve the problem with different solution. i dont like the idea of leaving my pcs online 24/7 just for WAP pages. with this php solution i can access it anytime, anywhere.
