Okay I have a MBUS/FBUS cable and have successfully unlocked my 3315.

Now what other cool things should I do with my phone ?

Also I presume it is fine to go on a really cheap plan with a provider in order to get a phone and then put my existing sim-card in the new phone ?

Cheers!

Hiya BootySlap (great name!)

Also I presume it is fine to go on a really cheap plan with a provider in order to get a phone and then put my existing sim-card in the new phone ?

When you say "really cheap plan", you mean contract yeh? If you're buying a phone on contract, that normally means a considerable amount each month, with (hopefully) free calls/texts/wap etc. If I bought a phone on contract I'd probably keep the sim it came with for the duration of the contract (They normally have a minimum contract duration of 12 months?), so that I could use the free credit...

If you don't mind paying the extra money each month or if you don't get anything free then sure, I can't think of any reason not to change sims to your old one (However, check your contract...it may say something about using your new sim only...)

If you got it on pay as you go, sure go nuts! Use whatever sim you want!

If you're interested in further modifications, it might be worth buying a flash cable, so you can upload modified flashes etc. The FBus/Mbus cable can be used for Logos and Ringtones (and phone book backups etc)

Anyway, hope what I've said makes reasonable sense, and may I welcome you to the nokiafree community :)

Gluck for the future

Thanks for the info. So what is the best program out there that can do things like logos, ringtones, phone info, unlock etc etc....the works! ?

Also the contract is like for a 3530 over 2 yrs but it works out to be cheaper than buying it outright and my current plan I am on is pretty good so I was thinking about it.

@BootySlap

As for unlocking, there are many tools...here are a few names to stick in search engines:

Rolis Tool 1.9
Knok
Nokia Tool (Jordik)
Eeproms

Different tools work for different people on different cables, personally Eeprons never worked for me, nor did Knok. But don't let that discourage you from trying, at worst it'll probably say "Cannot connect" or such.

Before you unlock you may wanna backup your phone, but you need a flasher cable for this (a cable that plugs into your parallel port, not your com port), though it isn't entirely necessary. (I just went ahead and unlocked mine w/out backing up)

P.S. Logomanager is my favourite for logos and ringtones, but for phonebook backups I prefer Oxygen Phone Manager II (but it's not freeware I'm afraid!)
