Iv been looking through all the WAVE posts but have not seen any sort'v answer to my problems.
Iv got a set of about 6 WAV files. They zipped and quite big (700-800kb). Iv unzipped them just to see how big they actually are and there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference.
However. I sent it to my phone (zipped) thinking that it would be able to fit on my phone (I have 1.7mb free) but just when it nearly finishes downloading onto my phone i get a message saying i dont have enough space and that i need to remove some programs.
From reading other posts it advises people that they can decrease the WAV file size by using Sound Recorder and cutting of parts of the track. I did this without problems and got the file size down to 60kb.
But when i sent the file to my phone and tried to open it i got an error message saying "Recorder Error" "General System Error"
1. My first question is, how do i get the WAV files to work after editing them using Sound Recorder on my PC?
2. The file size on a pC seems to differ to when i gets on you phone... How do you work out what size a file will be on your phone by knowing its PC file size?
All/any help will be greatly appreciated guys.....

Hey dude... I got a nokia 7650 and i use wav files for my ringtones and message alert tones.. I've only installed 2 onto my phone.... One is about 460kb (it's one minute of an eminem song) and the other one is 200 kb( its 15 sec of eminem saying stuff)..
Well the best option is to use the sound recorder and cut here and there and get the piece that you want..... the try the diferent formats for saving it.. (i'm still experimenting with which one is the best...but beware some are compatible and some aren't)...
Cheers

How do i change the format to IMA ADPCM?
I used Sound Recorder to take snippets off of the WAV file and got it down to 60kb. Went to Save As and it was done. Do i change the formatt when after iv clicked on Save As, or is there somewhere else i need to go in order to do this?

Thanx, i managed to get it working by using Sound Recorder and changing the WAV type to IMA ADPCM.
Iv got about 6 different WAVs ranging from 15-45 seconds longs, all under 200kbs aswell.
The only thing that pisses me off is the phones speaker. It seems to be able to play files that use sterio sound, but for some reason only manages to have a mono speaker as far as i can see. It takes a LOT of the quality.
Apart from that, im quite happy with the results!
Thanx Again.

The codec is called GSM 6.10 use it in a wav file. i have a one minute song from we will rock you (evian remix) and it plays great, it's size is under 100kb!!!!! the GSM 6.10 codec is great, i used 11khz off coarse, but if you choose 16Khz the sound is very clear and stilll not big ! poeple find this codec ,use it! i found it somehow, i don't know, maybe it came with a sound program....i use Sound Forge btw 5.0! but there is a new version 6.0 and there you can only save the file a GSM CODEC 6.10 @ 11khz - 22khz - 44khz..... and soundforge 5.0 , you could save it in any samplerate you want! saving a huge ammount of data, this codec is simular to the technique of MP3, only a little more rude compression methods, but if you do it right, it will sound fantastic especially on 16khz!

Sound Recorder has the option to change the sound type into GSM 6.10, but for some reson it sounds a lot worse than IMA ADPCM. I tried all the different Khz settings (5, 11, 16, 24 etc..) but i can hear more fuzziness than the actual tune itself.
There are about 100 different combinations you can you so unless anyone has a wicked problem combination, it looks like il have to stay with my current semi-clear WAVs.......???

If you have an alternate programme such as Audiorack 32 that had the ability to save in 8 bit 22kHz format of WAV then the sound comes out AMAZINGLY CLEAR and the size is also small!!!
I use this combination and my friends always comment me on the sound quality for such a small WAV file. For 20 seconds the file size would be Approx. 250kb which is nothing compared to other format combinations. -=UtseenO=-
Plz let me know if you find this combination useful, although im quite sure u will like the results ;)
