Is this possible seeing as you can listen to radio via loudspeaker

Not that ive heard of its really annoying! Thought someone would have made a stubby ariel that plugs in the bottom of the phone by now to save having wires everywhere...........

yea it would be cool as the loudspeak goes pritty loud when used with radio

No, the radio can't be used without the headsets as the wires of the headset work as the antenna for the radio. No antenna, no signals, no radio.

what maddog has suggested seems like a good idea, some kinda of unit which fits the bottom with an extenable arial, yjagota care to invent one?

Maybe...but I'm not at all good at engineering...:D
But I too miss this feature when I don't have the headsets with me...

buy a headset from ebay or somewhere like that, chop the end off and connect the wires to one of those extenable arials, job done
If anyone invents this ill buy one

Hello :)
Maybe i can help a bit by givving you the pinouts of the pop port.... got that somewhere from the net and put as a Word document.
Best regards

I chopped of the earphones on mine and it still worked on the phone BUT you still had the big white bit left with the microphone in it. So chopped that out and it doesnt work anymore. There are 9 wires in the lead i have tried bridging a few to trick the phone into thinking the headset is plugged in but no joy........
Didnt think it would be simple otherwise it would have been done already. If anyone knows how to make the phone think the headset is connected let us know!

The thin wires from the microphone to the earplugs are the ones which act like antennas. You chop them off and the radio will not work.

Hello :)
The trick is not to cut off the earphones, even with no "antenna" present (wires!) the radio will still work, but maybe not, or bad, receive stations.
The trick is the microphone itself and a tiny SMD part sitting on it. Those two parts actually "tell" the phone that there is a headset connected.
I managed to get a headset from a 6510 (mono two-ear model) connected to the 6610 by using a pop-port connector (with cable) from a cheap one-ear headset for the 6610. Using the original answerbutton/microphone unit (the one with the clip and chrome button) and it's cable connected with the cable coming from the pop-port connector. The soldered wires insulated with tape and put into the "capsule" which housed the answer button and microphone of that cheap thingy, result: A two-ear headset (though mono) with very good sound quality (original Nokia!) and a nice answer button unit with a LONG cable :)
It is detected as a "normal" headset by the phone.
Now, what does that say? If you want to "trick" the phone, put the microphone unit with that tiny SMD part into the pop-port connector! There should be enough space in there.... if not, use a cheap one-ear headset with an "openable" connector, there is definitely enough space inside. And leave some wire sticking out to act as the antenna (50 cm should be ok). Voila - your phone works "without headset". This wire could eventually be replaced by one of those retractable antennas from a small radio...... the fantasy has no limits. Just make sure the original microphone unit is still present and wired to the correct pins of the connector as this makes the thingy a "headset" and detectable by the phone.
Good luck....

Where do you get all that knowledge Thanh...:)
Well, for me I think, It's better carry the headsets then to do so much of engineering.
But using the radio with headsets or Music Stand really sucks. I wish that in future there will be phones that don't need any of those two to listen to radio.

Hello my friend :)
I have always been quite poor, never able to afford something really luxurious, and also never been able to afford expensive repairs when something broke down. In fact i made a living of getting "close to free" damaged electronic items on flea markets, fixing them and selling in second hand shops.
Also i have been active on CB radio for years (13 DAA 510, now 153 DAA 510) which gave me knowledge about transceivers, antennas and output power related to field strengths blah blah stuff :)
In fact, one thing i CAN tell you... if you want to use a radio in a cell phone, you HAVE to have an antenna. Because FM plays in a frequency known as the "3 meter band" (roughly!) for good receiption you need a 75 cm's antenna. (1/4 wave length). That can't be put into the tiny phone.... sure enough, shorter antennas work, but you need a coil to bring the antenna electronically (or, geek language, high-frequency-adaptive) to a length of 1/4 of the wavelength of the frequency you receive.
An all-coil antenna (no visible stub) also receives, but baaaaad.... And it will take up some space in a phone. Do you want the phone to be the size of a 1611? hee hee..... so better go for the headset option :)
Besides... Stereo comes only over the headset... as there is certainly not enough space for TWO loudspeakers in the phone, plus maybe a nice 500 watts amp? CD or line-in? He he and the big suitcase that you always have to carry, THAT is the battery. BUT you save the headset :))
Cheers from BKK......

Now I know...;-)
Well, anyone of you can try and come up with a solution but don't mess with your phones guys...
I'll love to have a folding antenna without any wires for my 6610 which can be fixed at the pop port.

Dear friend....
Just send me a pop-port connector, and i will "build" one for you... i am in the moment not able to buy a cheap headset, but if i had such a connector, i could make one for you. How does that sound... a pop-port connector with an antenna at it's side and nothing else... and use the phone as radio :) But if a call comes, you have to disconnect it, otherwise can't hear anything :)
your Thanh.....

@Thanh
Thanks a lot for the offer mate. But if I will send you a pop port connector and you will send it back to me, it will cost same as a new 3310. ;-)
But anyways, I seriously love your knowledge and I don't have a single percent of disbelief on your skills.

That's true.
But if any time i will be able to produce such a thingy, i will be happy to send you one. Just give me a few weeks :) As i personally won't need it, having my homemade headset always with me........

Could you wind enough wire to create the desired length into a kinda stubby thing and mould it into some plastic or rubber? Is this possible or would it not work? I like the idea of a small stubby arieal instead of a big extendable beast. I might have a shot at it, I've got a 7250 and i got the headset free. Its still all packed up cause ive only used it once to see how radio sounds.

It will work FiReWbT, but the reception won't be of good quality. And the problem will remain the same. Bulky wires...

anyone considdered shortening the wires on a nokia headset to a more managable length? or adding a coily wire instead of the straight one? just a couple of thoughts.
