Heya. OK, I'm kinda new to all this, so excuse my lameness. :p
Right, I've had a look thru the forums here, and I've got a few things I want to do to my 5210. I'm just not too sure how. The firmware on my phone right now is v5.18, and it's not too great. initially I just wanted to get the latest firmware for it, until I found you could get modded ones. :D *rubs hands together in anticipation*
I've downloaded rollis, and knock95, plus V5.25 of the firmware. now all I need is a cable, which I'd like to make myself. What kind of cable is it exactly? (mbus, data cable, flasher cable....I'm confused  ) Could anyone give me a link to a schematic or something? I've found a few already, but they are all different, and Im not sure which to use.
Lastly, which software is best for flashing? Some say rollis (if used properly) but others say knok95.
Cheers guys. :D

You will need two different types of cable to flash your phone.
Flasher cable plugs in to LPT port (printer port) to flash the firmware to the phone.
and
A datacable (with MBUS) to update the FAID unlock etc (FAID nokia protection to stop end users flashing there phones)
As for te software I use Rolis 4.79 now but before I could get Knok to work.
Both software flashes but with the old rolis the phone would not turn on. but the latest version it works.

hey again. I sent off for the two cables from a website. cant remember who, but it only cos me £15 for both of them, which I think is not too bad. Should arrive on tuesday. In the meantime, i have another query for you all. I was messing around, sending ringtones to my phone via the IR port and Logomanager. It was all going great, converting the .RE files, uploading them...until I uploaded one tone (think it was the scooby doo theme FYI) and it froze my phone. now whenever it rings, it freezes and resets. I cant overwrite the ringtone, change it via composer, do anything to get rid of it. if I send a new ringtone to that location via logomanager, it bleeps to indicate it's received it, but still it doesnt work. Any ideas?
I;ve tried resetting the phone to factory defaults, but it still stays the same. I can receive texts ok, but as soon as I go to change the ring tone, or when I get a call - it freezes. Should I just wait to get these cables and re-flash the phone next week, or is there a way around this?
Cheers again

hii
before flashing kill FAID and fix all crc's by g3n0lite
if you don't kill FAID before flashing you will flash and the phone power on but you cannot set FAID.
5210 deny the setting FAID.
ideas
If you want to modify flash be careful programs are not fully compatible with 5210 can corrupt eeprom dump..
I noticed that the newest firmwares are slowest than olders v5.18 more faster than v5.20 v5.22..etc..
if you want to make your own cables search dejan's cable schematics fully work which i am using...

it gets slower??? wow. I thought it was slow to operate using 5.18 already! why is this phone so slow to use? especially when you write a text message longer than 160 characters.
I'll go look at the dejan cable stuff just now. thanks. :)

I have no idea how this works! I got a nokia 5210 and all I want to do is unlock it. I've bought this cable from ucables.com and it fits (in the connector under the battery) but i've had loads of problems. It says that the power has to be on.. but how the hell am I supposed to do that? The battery has to be removed, and the only way (as I can figure out) to replace it is by connecting the battery charger or just hoping that it gets energy from the cable connected to the COM port.
What am I doing wrong?
