You cannot install programs to the 9210 through a card reader.
You must install the programs through the 9210 because it has to update settings and actaully install the program through the 9210, however you can put a .SIS file onto the MMC card and then install the prgram on your 9210.
The symbian platform is very much like windows, it has to update settings and install files in different places etc. When installing through your 9210 from your computer it does all this for you.
Dont undestand (I can get complicated sometimes)? Reply any time if you have any queres.

You need Nokia PC Suite to connect your 9210 to the computer via a dta cable. It is required to install programs to your 9210.
You can also sync the 9210 and backup files with the computer, but I never use that function.

Windows usually sets its default IR port to 'Com 3'... U can change this through the infrared settings in the control panel.

when u use infrared, u can transfer the file to the handphone? to transfere the file to mmc card need to use the phone to some sort of copy and paste to the mmc card or use the mmc card reader also can??
i hand a nokia 9210 communicator but i no had the serial data cable so i cannot use the com port. 9210 has inbuilt infared, can i just go buy the irda device install one my pc then can i transfer file/game/ install application to the hp just by using infrared?
i download the latest nokia pc suit ( 9210 ) , i realise it need to work with com port?? ( i no got series cable) i double click on the pc suite it say com port 1 com port 2 com port 3 com port 4 port ask me to choose the port, but i no had the serial data cable leh so cannot use nokia pc suit won run say hp not connencted.
can Infrared ( auto replcae the com port ) work with 9210 nokia pc suit?
how do let PC Suite to recognize the IR as a serial COM port or is it when installing the infrare device into the pc, is it the infrare will create some sort of virtual com port and thus the nokia pc suit can communcaite with the hp
so window default is com port 3? can i just use the infrare to install file into my hp instead of using serial cable? can it transfer the file to mmc card also:confused:

To be frank, I think that Infrared is not the best option to go for.
You really should get a serial cable, I use a Nokia DLR-2 cable and that works fine. All you do is run the .sis file after you plug your phone in and it's installed.
Serial cables are much cheaper than USB infrarent ports.

@wahoosg
you can install whidout cable, and no nead of IR
if you have a multimedia reader/writer, juste copy the .sis file to the card and put the car on 9210, them go to the .sis file on the card e make a normal install.
simple man :p

I preferr using a serial cable to infrared purely because it has higher transmission rate to IR, and if your using IR it can take ages to upload files to when they're about 2mb.

i will try the cheapest method,
" multimedia reader/writer, juste copy the .sis file to the card and put the card onto 9210, them go to the .sis file on the card to make a normal install. "
i wish to ask the .sis u what programe to install? like winzip etc?
or 9210 default had the programe already (double clikc automatic install?)

hi, quick question... is it possible to copy mp3s from my pc to my mmc using my mmc card reader instead of using the dlr-2l cable method? its much quicker... i've tried it but when i try to play it on my nokia 9210i using psiloc's multi media player with the mp3 encoder installed, it crashes and displays this on the top right hand corner: CDX-1001
any ideas?? thanx
