hello everybody,
i was just thinking of getting a new nokia phone but i cant seems to be able to decide whether i want a 7210 or 6610...can anybody around here can explain to me what is difference between 7210 and 6610 in terms software, hardware, functions/features and software bugs....in other words which one is the best between these two???
also, lets say if i bought a 7210, can i change the express on covers and keypad to a 6610 covers and keypad so that it will look more like 6610 rather than 7210....i know this can be done with 8210 being converted externally to 8250 but can this be done with 7210 converted to 6610 also???
any links, opinions and replies is truly appreciated...thank u !!!

hie there,
thanks for replying my post...anyway, from the way u wrote the short post, it seems like there's not much difference between 7210 and 6610 except the covers and price....here in malaysia, currently the 7210 is cheaper compared to 6610...but the outlook of 7210 looks more weird and strange compared to 6610...especially the keypad...its so strange looking..anyway, thanks a lot!!

Hello :)
The 6610 and the 7210 share the same hardware and software, they have the same bugs and the same features, all functions are identical.
However the keypad is different! So you can NOT interchange the covers from 6610 and 7210! The covers fit on the phones, but the keys won't work. I have that tested.
Be aware that some software versions have bugs, such as the 4.18 which does not bring te backlights on when someone assigned to a caller group rings you, and you have changed the ringtone from that group to any other but "default". I am not too sure if other software versions share this bug, but i know that v4.74 has it solved, in both 6610 and 7210.
You can also flash a 6610 with 7210 software, and vice versa.
I have a 6610 WITH the bug (4.18) and i can tell you, it is way easier to use than the 7210 due to the keypad. But looks matter also... and the availability of x-press on covers. Generally (at least here in thailand) you get millions of designs for the 7210 but just a dozen or so for the 6610. The 6610 is more a "business" phone where the 7210 goes into "fashion" class.
I hope i could help you a bit.....
Cheers

hie there brother thanh...
thanks for ur help regarding my question....sorry i didnt reply ur last email coz i was very quite busy with stuff around my hse....mostly painting, i will definetely reply it later....thanks for all of the information u have given...certainly appreciated....anyway, i was wondering if it is possible for us to take out the 7210 keypad & cover and replace it with the 6610 keypad and cover...??? like i said before this, i knew this certainly works for the case of 8210 being converted to 8250....is it possible to convert 7210 > 6610 externally(covers, keypad) not internally(software)??? also, is there a bug where u cant assign a ringtone u downloaded into the gallery to ur contacts on 7210/6610??? thank u !!!

Hello my dear friend!
Don't worry too much about the e-mail.... i am a patient person :) I am always happy when we can keep in touch :)
About 6610/7210, as i already wrote before, the covers can not be interchanged as the 7210's keypad is different. With "keypad" i mean here the part of the phone itself, where the actual "keys" are sitting, not that plastic thingy which you can remove with the cover.
The layout of this actual keypad is different between 6610 and 7210, so you can put the 6610's outer cover and keyMAT on a 7210, but most of the keys won't work as the point where the keypress goes does not match with the position of the actual contact point.
That is actually the same with the 8210/8250! Sure, there are covers available for a 8210 to make it look like a 8250, but they are tricky as you can see, you can't use a 8250's keymat in them... same here, the position of the contact points on the phone itself are (slightly) different.
Covers for this phone which make it look like a 8310, for example, come with two different keymats, one to use with a 8210, the other for 8250! Own experience here, having had such a phone for quite a while.
The only phone models that you can DEFINITELY interchange covers and keymats are the 6510 and 8310. To use a 8310 cover on a 6510 you have to make a tiny modification on the phone's upper end, but the keys are perfectly at the same place... the 6510's cover clicks on the 8310 with no mod at all, and is fully usable :)
I hope i could help you with this information....... have a good day :)

Sorry i forgot this....
I am not aware of a bug that doesn't allow to assign downloaded ringtones... at least in 4.18 i can assign any ringtone to any group, no matter if downloaded or original :)
I saw the new phones... i wonder why Nokia now tries to keep up with Samsung with those 65k colour screens (6600).... but the memory is nice, 6 MB plus memory card.... it seems to be a series-60 phone, and i don't really like those. I prefer Nokia's standard menus :)
The 3310 looks pretty much like yet another "brother" of 6610 and 7210... i think once again, same hardware, slightly different software and a new cover, that's it.... but i am interested in that "fun cam" thingy, i am sure it will also work with my 6610 (pop port is pop port, or what?) and the cam-headset works ine with mine, this one just adds a flash and therefor no more headset.... (Hello Nokia? Somebody there? Why can't we have the flash in the cam-headset???)
I can't wait for you to get one of them (6610 or 7210) to take advantage of my website... i have just today uploaded a bunch of new games :)
Cheers....

id go for 6610, looks, feels and probably performs much better then 7210, if there is a BIG price difference then might be tempted by 7210.

hello,
thank u for the replies, special thanks to thanh for taking the trouble to answer me back with such a long and detailed explaination...u rock man !!!
too bad we cant use the 6610 covers with 7210...i knew that 8210 can be converted to 8250 but it has to be done at phone shop..i didnt try it myself though!!!.....
about the bug probem, i was just asking if since i heard/read from other websites that previews/reviews mobile phones that 7210/6610/7250 has this problem where u cant assign a ringtone u downloaded into the gallery to a person phone no....i know this coz im having the same problem with 3510i....its the same with 3530 asia pacific edition...so just asking only!!
about the new/latest releases phones from nokia...i bet they have to release something good and great like 6610 and 3100 (not 3310 like u said in your previous post)....if not, nokia will sure lose out its market and customers/fans to SE which just released T610 (my boss just bought this, great phone with camera, 32 channel poly/midi, but im more like a nokia guy) and also to Samsung phones which are already rolling out 65K colour phones all this while...so, this something like a competition for SE and Samsung.....
on to the subject of 7210/6610, i myself cant wait to sell off my 3510i so that i can get a 7210 or 6610...i will definetely look for ur website when i get one of those phones...anyway, the price difference between them 2 is between is around RM 100-150, (USD $1= RM 3.80)...so see first when i sell off my 3510i...by the way, i knew that 7210/6610 has a FM radio functions built into it, but does it have this CALLER GROUP (assign logo, ringtone) function into it???
thank u for the time, good day everybody!!!

Yes, 7210/6610/7250 all have caller group features. Although you can't change logos, all five caller groups can be assigned a new name, different ringtones etc. Logos are prefixed and can't be changed.
If the difference is so huge, go for the cheaper one. They are exatly one and the same thing except for looks. 6610 is simple and sombre and 7210 is flashy and attractive.
