the 6600 will prob be very simmilar to the 7650 release price

the price might be a little higher than the 7650 due to the improved high resoultion tft lcd display (it now supports 65,536 colors as oppose to the 3650 and 7650 which I think only supports 4096 colors). This is just my opinion, what do you guys think?

schizO;
The 6600 specs mentioned that the os is symbian 7.0s. Do you have any idea whats the difference between os version 6.0 and 7.0s?
Thanks. :)

i think...
it does not matter whether it is symbian 7 or 6 but the thing that makes the different is the Series 60 platform...
it's like...
Windows 98 and ME is a DOS shell rite... it's the same old DOS rite... just the interface and some things are added but it does not affect their compatibility so... does not really matter i think
* just my thought *

commercially available during the fourth quarter of 2003 in Europe, Africa, and Asia-Pacific markets.
Does it has that "LIGHT-SENSOR", like 7650 ? or ability to switch off background light (to save battery) ?

Thanks ll627, I got the details from Symbian website. So, 6600 is almost a 3G phone because of the new os version 7.0s!
Here's what is quoted for the Symbian OS v7.0s:
Symbian OS v7.0s provides new functionality providing a fit-for-purpose platform for the 3G market and enabling the OS for 3GPP compliance, enabling the delivery of 3G services. The major new features of Symbian OS v7.0s are:
• lightweight multi-threaded multimedia framework
• support for W-CDMA
• Java MIDP 2.0
• support for multiple primary/secondary PDP contexts
• support for bi-directional text (Thai, Arabic and Hebrew)
Not much effect for us end-users, but for s/w and application developers, these new features are useful for them for creating new and better applications and softwares. :)
The best phone is Neonode N1 and I'm waiting for it... :D :p ;)

Neonode CAN'T be the best fone... for a simple reason that it has no bluetooth! How can you play v/s games using IR, you have to stand very very still in front of your opponent, any slight movement will knock out your connection! This fone is supposed to handle large size multimedia files, it will take ages to upload these files to the fone using IR! Neonode is also dual band only, people on the other half of of the planet can't use it... :(

6600 really rocks. If it had a jotter function too, I think we could have compared it with P800. But anyways, I'm gonna buy it for sure.
6600 uses Symbian OS 7.0. Every previous applications are compatible. That means every 7650/3650 application will run fine on 6600 too.

Neonode could be the best phone out there if it existed... ;) but it doesn't... Hehe...

In case anyone doesn't get the symbian newsletter, heres an extract from them about the 6600:
"The Nokia 6600 - Ewan
So we have another of the 21 'in development' Symbian OS phones. Announced last week, the Nokia 6600 is a lovely example of the Finnish strategy - build a base device and just tinker round the edges with the form factor and features for a few years. That's why Series 60 will becoem the standard. It's already in the 7650 and 3650, and we now know the n-Gage and the 6600 are coming. I'm sure there will be a few more announced filling in gaps up till next summer, and of course the other manufacturers (Siemens, Samsung, Mitsubishi, etc).
So, the 6600. Well, at first glance it's nothing startling, and the best way to describe it is 'an updated 7650.' It's clearly aimed at the businessman, and with lots of 7650's up for contract renewal at the end of this year, it seems the perfect time to launch an 'new improved device.
The change from Symbian OS 6.1 to OS 7.0s is something that the end user won't see. 7.0s is binary compatible with 6.1, so any application that runs on the existing Series 60 OS 6.1 devices should run on the OS 7.0s devices. That's a good move - providing not only an upgrade route but preserving the existing applications for developers and end-users. The developers don't need to re-code, and you don't need to buy another registration for WirelessIRC.
The timing (Oct-Dec 2003) is again classic Nokia. Announce the new phone a few months ahead, so all those people looking for an upgrade will hold off for the familiar and trusted Nokia. I'm sure the likely autumn launch of the Siemens SX-1 will have been thought about when deciding the fate of the 6600. Siemens may be licensing Series 60, but all's fair in business and war. I'm pretty sure the market is going to be big enough for all the Series 60 licensees (after all, it's big enough for all the current phones).
And of course competition can only enhance the drive for bigger and better features - something the current crop of Palm and Pocket PC devices are missing.
Nothing stands out on the device. We've got a bit more memory (6mb as opposed to 4mb), space for an MMC (just like the 3650 and N-Gage), an improved XHTML browser (networks and content providers take note), and... well... that's about it. It's a slow evolution and I'm sure it's aimed at users of the 6210 series of phones - there's not much to tempt an existing user to upgrade.
Or is there? Look at the device in more depth, and you can see the continual improvements. Not least is the fact that, finally, we have a Series 60 phone with a 'normal' keyboard. No slides, rotary dials, or strips down the side. The size is just right for a shirt pocket - the prime location for a PDA, which of course is where the Symbian devices are all aimed at. Those two things alone should lead to this being the best selling Series 60 phone in the financial districts and big businesses in the Capital and beyond.
I haven't even mentioned that the colour screen technology (improved on the 3650 form the 7650) is even more improved. The colours themselves have more depth, there's a better contrast, and it just looks better. The camera, while still on 640x480 resolution, at least has digital zoom when the girl you fancy is on the other side of the dance floor and not right next to you.
Nokia have started to show their hand. Now I want to see what everyone else has. Out of those 21 devices, about half of them are still 'under wraps.' It's going to be a good year when they all finally come out. "
