9210i ,XP and IRDA

Hi All,

i have a 9210i nokia and i would like to use it with my XP at home
i have down the latest PCsuite and installed it on my XP:

-1 i can only see Com port and not IRDA
-2 i have setup an IRDA connexion in XP and test it against my 9210..."EPOC connexion..OK"


But the issue is how can i make the PC suite see my IRDA connexion?

Do you have a doc somewhere to explain how to setup IRDA,9210i and PCSUITE on XP?

if you install the pc suite for 9210, u should see a shortcut to install an irda driver for windows 2000 on the start menu, it's kinda emulate irda to a com port, after u install it, the irda should be seen as a com port (mine is com8), then u can connect the 9210 using irda.

It really is a matter of trial and error. If it isn't working, try and uninstall the Extended Systems drivers using slntunst.exe which is the PC Suite directory. Then reboot and reinstall them. Eventually, you might get a situation whereby XP recognises the device (infrared icon in tray) AND in device manager you see the virtual COM port (probably 5). Hopefully then you'll see COM5 as an option to connect to in PC Suite and hey presto.

Then days of dropped connections albeit with much better speed await you!

yeah.. , in my case, right after i install the irda com drive, the pc suite recognize the device, but when i reboot my computer, it wont recognize it anymore, i have to disable the irda com port in my hardware profiles, then enable it again so my pc suite can recognize the device.
and irda connection isn't realiable at all, but that's my only option until i get my data cable, this week hopefully ^_^

the install was ok and i get the irda conection to my 9210i but when i reboot i lost the conection..

- right click on My Computer,
- choose Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, Ports,
- right click on irda COM port (mine is COM 8) , click properties
- on device usage, choose do not use this device (disable)
- press ok,
and to enable, do the same and choose use this device (enable)

if u do this correctly, u don't have to reboot the computer..

Many thx ,but it does not work ;-((
It apears that in order to make my irda working,i need to re-install
the PC suite software each time i want to conect my 9210i to my XP ???

if there's anything need to be uninstalled, it's only the irda driver, to do so, go to C:/Program Files/Nokia or wherever you installed the PC Suite, double click on uninstall, it should only uninstall the irda driver, then install it again..

if it still doesn't work, buy a data cable ^_^, data cable is much more reliable, plus no pain in the instalation.
