View Full Version : Problem with W2k detecting the dku-5 cable correctly

I have the Nokia 6200 phone and I have windows 2000 on my pc and when plugging in the dku-5 usb cable it detects it as a USB device but then tries to install the drivers but gies me the following error "The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance". I also have added manually the dku-5 cable under "multi port serial adapters" but there is a yellow exclamation which keeps saying the drivers are not installed and when I try to install the drivers it always defaults back and says that the best driver for this device (is already installed. I went ahead and installed the drivers manually from the Nokia cd that came with the cable and then removed the dku-5 from device manager and then unplugged it and then plugged it back in and the same thing happens. Here is what Ive done so far to troubleshoot this?

1) unplugged everything and uninstalled the Nokia Suite software, and then rebooted and then installed the Nokia dku-5 cable software. I then rebooted and then plugged in the usb dku-5 cable into the computer and W2k detected that something was plugged but instead of it showing it as a Nokia Data Cable it shows as unknown device and then gives me the error listed above and the installation never finishes.

2) Ive tried assigning the drivers myself during the plug and play detection but what happens is that it searches the cd and then finds the driver located in c:\winnt\inf\usb.inf as the best driver for this device. The problem is that once the installation completes it still shows as driver not installed.

3) Ive reformatted my hard drive (not because of this issue but other issues). I went ahead and then tried the installation again and the same thing happened.

I have no idea what to do next.

Please let me know any thoughts you have. I really appreciate it.

thanks in advance
