Nokia 6610 WAP Games download problem.

Hey all,

Just got my Nokia 6610 today. Sweet little phone, I tell you.

Anyway, I've been downloading midis and wallpapers all day through WAP with absolutely no problem. Thing is, when I try to install a .jar file, it gives me a "file format unknown" error message. I have no idea why it wouldn't work.

My mobile carrier is T-Mobile USA and I'm accessing my WAP Through T-zones. When I go to T-Mobile's little T-Zones games download shortcut, it tells me that this phone is not capable of downloading games from WAP. I know that's not true, as I've read on this forum of people downloading games from WAP to 6610s. Maybe the phone is locked? By the way... I'm a newbie, if you haven't already guessed. How do you tell that a phone is or isn't locked?

Ehh, any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. I want my Snake II back!!

I am operating my own small website which gives WAP downloads, in the moment only wallpapers and ringtones, but i had also games there. I had to take them off because i always got "bandwidth exceedec" and been taken offline by the webhost.
However, when you receive a "File format unknown", that means the website which you try to download the game (.jar-file) from is not prepared to host those, the file might be there, but that webserver doesn't know what file it is. I had this same problem when trying to make available colour operator logos, the tripod server did not "understand" the file type ".ncl" and i got the "File format unknown"-error.
Make a test: Go to my website (with the computer!) at http://thanhwap.tripod.com and select some wallpaper or ringtone, and follow the instruction to download it via WAP into your phone. The file types are .jpg for images and .mid for ringtones. If you get some error, there might be something wrong with your phone settings, but if you get "File format unknown" that says actually, that your WAP settings are ok..... otherwise the phone could not access that file!
Please let me know weher you have been successfull gettiong wallpapers or tones, and then i will give you links to game files, which you could test. I have tested them ALL with my very own 6610, and they are all excellent working.
By the way, having a phone locked or not does not affect WAP :) It only says that your phone will only work with a certain SIM card or on a certain Network..... nothing to do with WAP :)

Yes, I did try getting a wallpaper and a midi off of your website and it works just wonderful. So I suppose the sites I was trying to download games off of via WAP just wasn't configured properly, or something?

Anyway, if you could give me a link, that'd be awesome. Snake II, if you have it :D

By the way, when you're downloading with WAP, do you usually pick the .jar file, or the .jad file?

Hello :)
First of all, if you download via WAP, i recommend always to point your WAP browser directly to the .jar file. The phone then accesses the file and downloads it automatically, if the web server "knows" that file type. After the download is finish, the phone displays the game's name and a few details, and offers "Dwnload".... press "ok" and the game "installs" under "Applications".
Now my site is AGAIN taken down, i don't know what should i do, almost EVERY damn day it get's this "exceeded hourly bandwidth" crap......... but here is the link to snake 2:

Do not forget the ending .jar! Type this adress in your WAP browser, and you will be able to get snake 2. Check first with your PC if the site is back up! If not, the game won't download, it will say "Page not found".

It says it will be back on in twelve hours, so I'll get back on at exactly 9:25 pm tonight. (It's 9:25 am over here in Texas)

I also recently got a 6610, with vodafone no plans prepaid, and to my dismay, i found the no plans account dissallows WAP! I panicked for a moment, thinking i would be unable to acquire snake ii, but then realised i had the pc suite - all was not lost. i have been searching for ages for a link to download straight to my pc. i THINK, (but im not sure) if i click thanhs link to snake ii on my (web) browser it will ask to me to dl the .jar file to my pc? is this correct, because if so, then i just need to wait for the server to be up or whatever, as the pc suite has a java application installer. i have had no problems sending images as wallpapers using the pc suites image converter, so im confident the app installer will work. if any one has any other direct links to a .jar file for snake ii (for 6610) could they email it to me ([email protected]) plz - im desperate! ;)

Ok folks, before i get another 739 mails, PM's and requests, grab it from here.....
The game was distributed for free from Club Nokia (Bonus Game) so there shouldn't be a piracy issue.
