My soldering iron has adjustable temperature, and before i start doing LED's on phones, i would like to ask, what is the ideal temperature for removing and soldering LED's?
Thanks,
Kuch

The easiest way to remove the leds is with SMD rework station..
To solder them back the temperature must be aprox.. 315 degrees celsium...

the pro's i know say your best useing a 15watt iron.
i use higher than that and have no problems.
use it at a lowish temp

So you want the iron just hot enough to melt solder?

I think you would want the temperature as low as possible. So it should probably be just hot enough to melt the solder like you said.
Your question has been asked before, I think you can find some useful information at this thread:

Hope this helps.

Please take a look at this thread, especially what Adven has to say regarding LED removal! I use his method with a modified 20 watt standard soldering iron!I can't recommend it high enough!!!;)

Just to chuck in my useless info, a fairly low powered soldering iron would do the job, 11 W.
But more importantly is how you do it. I recommend getting some dud LEDs and practise on a board, they are fiddly. Get used to handling them and heating them for as little as possible.

The only thing i can recomment is just plain experience with soldering.
With removing the leds, i read about using a technique with a pin on the table pushing the leds off while you apply heat to the contacts. I cann't stress enough how delicate the contacts are. Luckily, the contacts on the leds were weaker than the ones on the board.
I ended up stripping the contacts of the first few old leds.
The technigue with the 'crimp on' fork shaped connector from Adven is definately the best cus it doen't put any torque on the leds.
With placing the new leds on what worked for me was just a needle with some double sided tape on the end to hold the leds in place.
In the end its all about working quickly becuse there isn't a lot of metal on the board to absorb the heat and spread it around.
