yes actually you can use gprs to connect thru the net. with my network they have given us settings to set up the 7650 as a modem.
its under >tools >settings >connection >GPRS ( you just have to find out these settings on ur network) when you do just connect ur 7650 with ur laptop using IR.

In finland there used to be gprs operator that was 30eur/month and no other costs, but it was so popular that they changed it only to 100mb/30eur/month system.

I use bluetooth to hook my phone up, i have two dialup profiles set up on my pc if my home internet dies out for some reason... one is using 9600 baud via a datacall to some free dial-up internet provider, the other is setup to dial *99# and this connects your pc to the default GPRS APN of the phone. Works just fine for me, but even 42000baud is too slow for me these days.
Oh well, it's only for emergencies anyway...

Oh nice one, cheers m8. Is it fast enough to connect to MSN using my laptop?
Wouwz

Why do you want to MSN on your Laptop if you can do it on your foon?
Witth the program called ImPlus, you can make use of ICQ, MSN and another wich i 4got.
I input text faster on my phone than on my PC, so it's really handy for people like me, but i don't think that goes up for everyone so it might be tricky chatting around using the keypad.
So for really fast chat turn off (not kiddin' here) the T9 input system (dictionary) and remember the locations of the letters, this goes much faster cos you don't have to change the word every time, and use two hands one on the keypad and one on the C-stick to skip the waiting time if you want to use the same key again.
Believe me it really does goes faster.

Yes but i prefer the layout of the original MSN on my laptop. I have Tipic and IM plus and all that but i find it easier to use my lpatop and also you are able to transfer files. So is it fast enough to connect onto the MSN network using a laptop and a bluetooth connection and GPRS?

Well, there was a time when i surfed at 2400 baud (no kidding)
And besides, MSN doesn't use much traffic... those messages are maximum 1kb a piece.
Sending or receiving a file through it should reach about 5kb/s so if you find that sufficient i should say go for it...

Hey guys,
I just got my free GPRS (not free at all actually, US$ 3/month) from my provider in Indonesia. So I install the Modem Options from my Nokia 7650 disc and already estabilish a modem connection via IR to my PC, the question is...what next???, I mean what should I do to connect to the internet, I've try to make a new dial up networking (sound ridiculous?) using my 7650 as modem, but I think that's not the way. No such detail in the manual, it just tell you how to install Modem Option and connect your phone to PC as a modem. So how to connect to the net and can I use my Internet Explorer as browser?

Try dialing *99# without country or region code...

I've try it, but what the username and password?. I try leave it blank, when I connecting, till verifying username and password, it disconnected.

I dont enter a password... I do enter a username though. My provider told me it doesn't really matter, so i just put my nickname there... Maybe on your network it needs a valid one, or maybe even some kind of password.
Check your GPRS internet settings on your phone if that works, enter the APN (ex. internet.proximus.be) on the phone in the GPRS menu under accesspoint so it's the default... then dial out using your laptop...

Dont enter a password or username and ake sure you have the right access point in the default box on your fone. I had this problem before, i was entering the WAP access point name instead of the Internet access point name.
Good Luck

oookey dokey.... been having a play and heres what ive found out
our cheapo free gprs deal is very VERY restrictive, it only allows wap blocking all other ports hence gprs connectivity to a laptop for net access wont work neither does im+ i know this cos the helpfile said words to the effect of what ive already typed, and it was confirmed when i put in my tmobile uk contract sim which has unlimited gprs (for a price) and everything worked.
however im STILL not getting this *99# thing to work properly, the process gets further on my unrestricted gprs but it still does not give me an active connection?

Nice one m8. So does that mean there is no way for us to access the internet using laptops using my 02 sim?

well there is a problem because the only port that o2 wap gprs can acces is 9201. wap can access mainly port 80 and 9201.

Thanks to all of u guys 4 the attention to this problem of mine. I just realize that my network provider provide step by step guidance service 4 this stuff, so now I just try to use their setting. But honestly I haven't make any progress yet :-)

20-08-2003, 06:49 AM
And 4 all of u who stuck in the same problem as mine, my suggestion is contact your provider first if u don't want to get into middle of nowhere. From my observation so far, almost every provider had it's own extra setting 4 this modem thing.
nixfonepro
20-08-2003, 07:15 PM
u cant access port 80 with wap gprs because o2 restrict it. they wont take the restriction off too because that the serviced you pay for on contract tariffs with internet gprs.
