Hi everyone,

My guess is that like a lot of people on this forum have at one time reinstalled his/her phone and like to restore only parts of the backup instead of the full old situation.

I'd like to create this thread to get a list of howto's on as many single components.

The following I know already:

Restore all Contacts
Copy the file "<backup folder>/system/data/Contacts.cdb" to "D:\system\data"
Press the Contacts button. You'll see now a folder called "Contacts" select it and press <enter>. There you'll find all your contacts
Select them all (by selecting the first and keep shift pressed while going down to the last one with the arrow key)
press Shift+Control+C, then select your Contacts database on the Comunicator
At the top of the "backup contacts database" you'll see the comunicator icon. Select it and you are back at your phones own database and all contacts should be there (including pictures) :)
Restore all Calendar appointments
Goto your Calendar by pressing the "Calendar" button
Press Shift+Ctrl+M (Merge)
Press "Browse" and goto "<backup folder>/system/data"
Select the file "Calendar" and press Ok
Now all your appointments will be "merged back" into your comunicator's calendar :)
Restore all desktop Notes/links
I thought I'd found these in "<backup folder>/system/favourites", however by copying them to "C:\system\favourites" didn't work for me :(
If anyone could please help me with this one, thanks a lot

So if anyone has info on how to restore the desktop notes or other things which can be restored seperatly, please post it in this thread.
Ofcause aditional questions on partial restores is also welcome

Hi Everyone,

Restoring your nokia desktop notes and links can indeed be done by copying them from "<backup folder>/system/favourites" to "C:\system\favourites". You might need to reboot your comunicator before the notes show up though...

Important note: I'e found out why my initial restore didn't work, as I had burned the backup onto a CD, all files were write-protected. This caused the comunicator not to accept them.
Even more important, after doing a full restore, I received time after time several errors during the restore and the phone would not boot anymore(!). To solve this, copy your backup first from the CD onto your PC, then make all the files writable again before restoring back to the phone :)
