hi all

since i have GLOBE prepaid and my 3650 does NOT work on all of the following applications:

nicq
mutelnet
yftp
POP or SMTP for email (except when using EmailViewer !! )
regular MMS messages out of country ( never tried inland )

here a few questions that might help pinpointing the problems.

1. does ANY one have any or several of above applications working IN the PH ?

2. does anyone out there KNOW if we have a FIREWALL at globe or smart for internet access in general ???? ( a firewall usually may make any or all such ports inaccessible - depending on security configuration and which PORTS have been opened )

3. does any GLOBE postpaid user have POSITIVE experiences with above applications and services ??

4. any OTHER provider IN the PH that works BETTER ( islacom or ?? )

5. did you find any GLOBE smtp server that works for PREPAID users ?

6. anyone ever got gateway IP 0.0.0.0 working at all ( to bypass globe gateway ) - any attempt i made always failed and the only gateway used so far is default configuration received FROM globe

7 did you ever successfully use any other accesspoint OTHER than www.globe.com.ph for direct www access from the 3650 ( or 7650 ) ( NOT for access from a PC via 3650 as modem !! )

if you had any success at all in any of above apps / services - then please also state the version # of firmware used for SUCCESSFUL use of any or all of above apps.

greetings

hello hans,

the solution to ur problem is to change the access point to internet.globe.com.ph. Retain the gateway to 0.0.0.0 and remove the homepage.

With this access point, you will be able to access/use all of the applications u mention via gprs. Just a reminder, Globe charges 25 cents/kb of data.
The access point www.globe.com.ph is the default access point by globe and u can only use this for browsing wap sites (for free).

(I suggest u create a separate access point name for the internet.globe.com.ph so that u can still use the free browsing with globe using the default access point)

Other telco charges 25 cents/kb of data anytime u access their gprs services, so the great thing to stay connected with globe is its free gprs browsing.

brgds,
yankee

hi...here's my 2cents' worth....

internet.globe.com.ph works only if you're a POST paid subscriber....

best if you switch to SMART - i'm able to use the official ICQ proggy and check and send mail (pop/smtp) with ease....doris browser also works well....plus their customer support service is so much better...they might make you wait but when they get back on the phone, they have ready answers...or if you hang-up bec. of the long wait they would definitely call you back..

GLOBE customer service is a joke....

oh yeah...i have both a smart and globe prepaid so i know what i'm talking about and able to compare =)

htanks for the link

however there was ZERO technical info at all that solves any of existing problems.

such awards received by industry are of near zero value except to promote and blind customers.
facts are important - and from the globe forum i see little positive facts about success in using any a.m. tools/apps or services

after may different tests i am almost sure that globe prepaid customers ARE in fact behind a firewall and totally cut off from any direct www acess of any real value except plain surfing on port 80 ( or 8080 ) !

the few email clients that work on a 3650 ( such as EmailViewer appear to use some kind of www interface for email to bypass the firewall and actually do all the pop/smpt TROUGH their OWN servers rather than using any of the globe (or other isp ) network channels.

you yourself did NOT mention ANY positive result using globe or smart or other PH providers in any mode ( prepaid or postpaid ) ... may be yourself you have no positive sucess in use of 3650 as well ?? ...

greetings
