Newbie with 3510i

Hi, I got a 3510i about a month ago.
By entering *#0000# the fone tells me I got:

V 03.54
09-01-02
RH-9
(c) NMP

I don't have a clue what any of that means, but I've been reading about V4.44, flashing, and faid.
If I we're to upgrade my fone, what exactly would I need in terms of hardware, and where would I get the software? Also, what is "faid"?
I know I can get my fone unlocked with the right equipment, but is this different to the equipment needed to upgrade the hardware? And I also know that all I need to change ringtones, games etc. is MobiMB and a data cable, is this different equipment from what is needed to flash the fone?
Finally, if I did decide I wanted to get any of this equipment, how much would is it likely to cost? (So I know when I'm being ripped off, :) p.s. i'm in the UK, so I work in £)

I'm sorry I'm asking for such a detailed answer, but I cannot find a good thread anyware that explains all the basics like this.

Doesn't the FAQ cover any off this? I'm sure it did, but the newbie FAQ forum is slightly odd...

it basically says what flashing is, and what unlocking is, and that an fbus, and an mbus cable are data cables that you can use for changing ringtones etc.
It says you need to get a pecial flasher cable for flshing, but doesn't say what other hardware/software you need and where you would get it from.
Since there are only 12 threads, it doesn't say much, like theres nothing about faid.
Also, someone told me you not only need a PC and some sort of cable (data cable???) to unlock a fone but that u need a special box thing, and special software. I havn't seen any website selling all this, so I'd just like some advice and knowledge.

Yeh, the reason the FAQ is so incomplete is cause it's incredibly dificult to update...it takes around 20 posts for 1 to get through, I've given up until they fix it.

Right, to unlock your 3510i you can just generate a code. Search this forum for

FAQ: Unlock DCT4

It'll explain how to unlock your 3510i without a cable, just a PC :)

Right, if you're interested in unlocking your 3510i, take a look at that post...it should be all okay.

I wouldn't buy anything just yet, the only thing I've ever bought is a set of data/flash cable for dct3 phones, cause I like them :) (3310, 3410 etc are great!)

But that's as far as I'm gonna type tonight...I'm really sleepy :D

Reply if there's anything specific you want to know, or go and click on the search button and look for more stuff. Read all the tutorials in the FAQ (The zipped up ones), all very good!
