My 64MB MMC is seen as 61MB in my 3650. Why?

Anyone know why my 64MB Multimedia Card is only recognized as a 61MB MMC on my Nokia 3650? Is this the result of formatting my MMC on my 3650? I don't think Symbian OS would take up any space on my MMC. Why is Nokia hiding my extra 3 precious MBs? Then, again, maybe my MMC is really a 61MB card instead of the 64MB written on it.

I think u should try it on another set. It happened to mi too...128mb show as 126mb...after I try it on other phone which show 128mb...and put it back to mine...this time it showed 128mb. But than again...this might not work. Just to share my experence. :D

Yes your card really is a 61mb card, and not 64mb. This is because manufacturers take a mega byte as being 1000kb, and not as 1024 like it should be.

64mb = 64000kb.

Manufacturers: 64,000kb / 1000kb = 64
Actual: 64,000kb / 60,000kb = 62.5

dont worry man there aint nothin wrong with ur MMC cause i got same MMC. It 64 MB like urs and instead of saying its 64 MB its says its 61 MB for me. what that guy said on the post below is true. Thats how all the memory cards work. :D

Dammit! I bought the MMC fair and square. We should start a class action lawsuit against these companies. Do the math right MMC manufacturers!

61mb is the correct number

64mb = 64,000,000b (bytes)

actual space (in mb)= 64,000,000/(1024*1024) = 61.035mb

it does not only apply to memory cards...
its the same for HDD for computers as well...
its been this way since along time ago
there is probably some fine print somewhere which tells you about these things, so relax... :D

Hi the memory 64.000 KB is 1000KB, the real memory is 64.000 1024KB.....

64.000 KB / 1024 = 62,5 MB the rest of memory is for partition, folder and data format..........

Both you and me are wrong in our posts. What the guy before you said was right.

1024 Bytes = 1 Kb
1024Kb = 1mb


so by means of doing some mathy stuff,

1mb = 1048576 Bytes

1Mb (by manufactures logic)
is equal to
1.048576 actual

So your "64 Mb" Memory card that you bought is actually:

"64MB" / 1.048576

which gives you a grand total of

61.035156 Mb.

The bigger the memory, the more you will loose. I lost 10 Gigs of my computer's hard drive.

And another thing.....

Ahh! Now I know why the "16MB" MMC that came with the Nokia 3650 is actually only 15MB. And that's why my 60GB hard drive only has 53GB left. And I thought Xp Pro actually took up 7GB. Dammit! Anyone know when these guys started using the "fake" formula for making data sizes?

since always. It's only in the last couple of years, with the introduction of variable removable storage (such as memory cards, etc.) to the mainstream market, and larger hard drives that people miss the mega bytes. I mean, it's ok to loose 5 or maybe 10 mb, but when you loose 5 or 10 GB, that's a different story.

Nope. There is absolutely no way to get a 7650 to accept memory cards. It only has it's internal memory.

That is one major advantage that the 3650 has over it's brother - mmc support.
