can someone enlighten me on what is a flash card (i think it's part of the phone's hardware, maybe it stores the operating system etc, but I'm not sure) and what is its function.
Also, is it possible to damage the flash card by downloading software or taking out the battery from the phone while it's still on??
Waiting for comments! tried searching on this forum but could not find reasonalbe answers.

Wot ur referring to is da flash component. It is used to flash ur fone i think. If it is damaged, ur fone wont be able to take a flash.
Im not sure, but yes I have read some of da fone getting stuck at nokia logo due flash component damaged after removing battery.
Is this da nature of ur problem? Pls print more details....will try n help as much as possible.

I was actually download an app from wap and also sent a ringing tone at the same time. When the phone tried to save the downloaded application file to the installer it suddenly hung up. Inorder to restart the phone I took out the battery. When i put the battery back in i started getting the "starup-failed contact retailer" error.
pls help!
Hi azzain ! :)
I guess what you mean is the EEPROM inside your phone.
Electronic
Ereasable
Programmable
Read
Only
Memory
Thatīs just an IC inside your phone where the OS is installed on.
If you use FExplorer you can see that IC as Drive Z: ( and maybe also parts of the other drives, C:, D: and E: )
I would say any important file like an .ini or another part of the OS got damaged by the process that runs by taking out the battery from your phone.
Normaly your phone canīt change the ROM itself. You have to use a special Datacable for that. I build one for my old Nokia 7110, that was very simple. Just two inverters and a simple amplifter. But for the Nokia 3650 / 7650 Iīve never build a Datacable.
What I try to say is: Normaly you just have to reset your phone, that means copy ROM to RAM to take the phone back in its original state.

so does this mean the eprom or the flash ic (as some call it) needs to be replaced??? does anyone know where i can purchase that?
Here in Germany you only have to go to any MobilePhone-Shop. (Service Point)
There they connect your phone over the needed datacable to their PC and flash the EEPROM and reset your phone. Iīve never paid for this but I guess it will cost about 30 - 40 ... ?!
They do this ambulatory ( :) ) and you will get your phone back in a few minutes.
If you want I could look how to build a datacable for Nokia 3650. But you will also need the right falsh-file and you do this your own risk !!
Flashing MobilePhones is not my job :)

thanks for the help leon, But let me take the phone to a proper authorised service center and let them take a look at it first. I went to a local repair shop y'day and after keeping my phone for 6 hours the repair guy said he needed to replace the falsh ic to repair my phone but he didn't have it with him so i brought the phone back. I hope the reapir guy didn't mess up my phone more than I did!
Okay, hereīs my search result :
For the Nokia 3650 / 7650 (DCT4-Phones) you will need a DCT4-Flasher that supports MCU and PPM.
A good choice would be the DCT-3/4 Griffin Box for about 399 .
The needed software will be available on S60 Island the next days.

Why did u take it to a local guy in da 1st place? Bad choice my friend.
Without any further delay, take it to NSC. Unfortunately most NSC wont take a tampered cell...so dont divulge that u had been to da local guy.
Is ur cell under warranty? I hope so.
Let us know wot NSC told u....All da best!

yeah it's still the same error message, but I'm guessing that the local repair guy might have tried to unsuccessfully flash the phone and i don't know if that could have caused more damage.
I have tried booting in safe mode by keeping the pencil button pressed but still get the same error message

Yea....I thinks its da 123 key.
aazain....not everyone can flash a 3650 so its possible ur local guy just didnt know how to do it. Your fone may very well start working with da proper procedure/s being followed by ur friend @nokia. All da best!

yeah I have read somewhere else as well that "not everyone can flash a 3650" is this beacuse:
1)not everyone has the right hardware/software ?
2)or not everyone knows the right procedure?
3)or both of the above?
can one of the gurus out there kindly explain why it's so difficult to flash a 3650 and perhaps ouline the correct procedure (harware/software to be used, step by step guide, etc) to flash it. It'll be a great service to the huge community of 3650 users especially those having trouble with it!
@ azzain :
Where do you live and which service provider do you have ?

@Leon:
I live in dubai, United Arab Emirates (it's in the Middle East) and we have only one service provider here, ETISALAT. Why do you ask??
Itīs not difficult to flash a Nokia 3650 at all !
You just need the hardware I told you, the software and (very important :)) the right flash-file for your Nokia 3650.
Like I said I havenīt flashed a Nokia 3650 ever, but at Nokia 7110 you only could flash files with the same checksume as the original one. So updating wasnīt easy.
But I donīt think you will pay about 399 for the Griffin Box, huh ? :)
If you would, of course I would help you.
But because this price I think it would be better for you to go to a service point of your service provider where the people know what they (should) do. :)

As far as I know, flash cards refer to flash media storage devices such as Multimedia Cards, Compact Flash Cards, Secure Digital Cards, etc.
They are called flash cards because the information is flashed (written) on the metallic portion of the card.

Atually since I'm in the mobile business (handset wholesale) anyway, buying a griffin box would not be such a bad idea because if I learn how to use it, maybe i could start offering flashing/repair/software upgrade serivces. This might be a good way to expand my business :p
Leon:
will you be posting on your site the flashing software and the flash files as well. A nice tutorial would be great!
