are you using windows xp? if so, do you have the program "userport" installed? is the phone on or off when you connect it to the cable?
if using windows xp, download and install userport, and in any case make sure that the phone is on when you connect it to the computer.
--edit--
you may have to change the port number (if you are using COM1 in the program, change to COM2).

Have you still got the little bit of foam around the pins ? the part that connects to the phone.
If you have try removing the foam, this can stop the pins making contact with the phone, its quite common with 3510 and 3310 leads etc

Hi.
I have a 3510i and a cable adaptor, I use Oxygen Phone Manager II (paid for and registered to me) which although not fully optimised for it, does work well.
I did have to move the foam border around the contact area to prevent fouling of the contacts!

P.S. I use Windows 98 SE, and use COM1
