ive had this 8250 since new, say 3 years ago now, and its performed flawlessly until now, well its been playing up for a while now, anyway...

about once a week if im unlucky it will totally lock up!, when it does this it cannot even be turned off! i have to take the battery out to power it down, it is totally unpredictable and can happen at any time, its not very common which im glad but when it does go its pretty annoying cause even if it locks up with the backlight on it just stays on..
pulling the battery out and turning the phone back on is all i need to do to get it up and running again, untill it happens again. :(

the 2nd thing is, sometimes ill get a sms msg, and when i go to read it no text appears, ill exit out of the inbox and go back in and all the names and sms's are there but which ever one i go into there will be no text in there, once again i have to turn the phone off and on again to correct the problem, note: no other text is effected, only the content of sms messages, oh and this is a rare thing to happen just like the lockups.

and last but not least, sometimes my phone will lose some sounds, like when someone calls me i cant hear them, and they cant hear me!... i found out just today that i can tell when this happens even before it does by pressing any key, if there is a keypad tone then the phones fine, but if i hit a key and there is no sound, it basically means the phone is not going to work when someone calls me. the weird thing is, i still have sound, like i can go into my profile editor and select a ring tone, and listen to it, but nothing else, how weird is that, once again i have to turn the phone off and on again to get it back in a fully operable state.... all these symptoms are rare and dont ever happen at the same time....

what do you guys think is wrong here?
and how can i fix it?

thanx

Todd.

what firmware version do u have? (press *#0000# to find out)

It might be possible to solve some of those problems by just flashing to the latest firmware (V 6.02 i think from memory), if you have the latest firmware, then im afraid i can't suggest anything else but to upgrade ;) 6610's are going for cheap now in aust :) compared to what it was a month and a half ago $499 from Dick Smith Electronics (http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/3f5308de08131286273fc0a87f9c068b/Product/View/E2782)

Yes, I own a 8250 too (imported from China).

I have lastest firmware 6.02 with PPM K and it works flawlessly, except that the microphone is damaged (I have to push the cover together, otherwise the caller will not hear me) and the phone says "Insert SIM Card", because the SIM Card reader got loose and I have to fasten it a bit.

Really try firmware 6.02, as the Chinese characters are very much improved!

CAN firmware become unstable, and corrupt over time?
or is it more likely to be a hardware problem?

All of your problems will be solved with a simple re-flash! Your firmware is corrupt, and you do not need to get the latest version! Just your is bad, get a working one! As for you sound problem, at the top of the screen is a small speaker, using a small, thin object (jewellers screwdriver, etc.) push the speaker back down, push on the two metal dots! All will be fine!
