Hi Siemenss.
I have a 3510i and datacable, my computer O/S is Windows 98 SE, and I use ComPort1.
I use Oxygen Phone Manager II, which is registered to me.
Some points on the Datacable, I have to re-position the foam border to prevent fouling of the contacts, also you need to ensure the adaptor clicks into place to ensure a good connection.
So, assuming your datacable works :-
What O/S are you using?
Have you registered the phone with OPMII.?
Have you entered the registration code for OPMII correctly?
Does OPMII try all your ComPorts?
Are you running any other programmes at the same time as OPMII?
Have you got the correct version of OPMII? (For Win98 it is V2.1 (Build 4.1) )

It may pay to point out the following procedures for connecting a 3510 to a PC. I have tried different ways without much luck besides one which I use all the time now.
0) Make sure your PC is on and logged into windows with the desktop up.
1) Turn the phone off.
2) Remove the back cover and battery.
3) Place the pin end into the phone and as James said but I removed the foam as this I find gets in the way and will probably end up damaging the pins more than preventing anything happening to them.
4) Turn on your phone and enter a pin assuming you use one, when it gets to the main screen (ie says your provider, time etc) do the next step.
5) Plug the other end of the data cable into the PC using either COM 1 or COM 2 (Both are 9 pin plugs if your machine is fairly new).
I have followed this on a couple of my own machines to which has failed. In the end I had to go through and adjust the COM Port settings via the BIOS which fixed the problem.
Of course there are other issues programs monitoring the COM ports for a modem such as Win Fax so it may pay to keep this in mind.
A little program I came across a while back I find very useful for testing connectivity of the phone/cable. You can find it here (http://www.justcommodores.com/temp/LMLinkTest.exe) on my site.
Cheers
