Hi Alais.
I also have a 3510i which I use in my car. I set "Auto-answer", but the backlight is controlled by Software.

I cannot see why the backlight could not be set to permanent when used with a charger like my mobile adapter. Obviously it is timed to prevent battery from being discharged too quickly when not being charged.

See if you have the option.
Menu/Settings/Accessory settings/Handsfree/Lights set to ON
Menu 6,5,2,3,1

Do you really need it on all the time though?

Just a thought

Hi Alais.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that until you plug-in a headset or car hands-free piece of kit, you will not be able to create a profile. It comes up like magic.

Playing games is not of interest to me, so the short backlight time does not cause me a problem. :-) But I know it is a pain for some users.
