Many of you may know of this but thought i'd just share the knowledge
Delivery reports are sometimes pretty crap indeication of message arrival, theres a better way to find out if somebodies fone is switched on by seding them a text message
Ive tried this on Orange and Bt Cellnet (02) in the Uk and it works
Type *0# your message
in the message composer window - that star zero hash and space then write your message, the recipient will not see the star zero hash bit - just the message
When they read it it will relay a message back to your fone showing the time they recieved it.
Hope this is of use to people out there...
By the way - the first time i did this to my mates fone - it sent back lots of wierd information about his mobile - lots of small chunks of info about model type and number etc etc - didnt really understand it
But when i sent it again all i got was the standard delivery report type message
strange anyone understand anything like this???
Mike
Yeah i know about this one, but normal delivery report work fine for me, they tell me the time he recieved it aswell if you look in the information of the text.
Pretty simple really
thanks for sharing though :D

Worked on my Dutch O2.
My normal delivery report is still transmitting state.
But I got an extra message directly from service center with reporting text in Dutch like this:
Ur O2 Textmessage to xxxxxx is delivered at mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss
sender +31626000230
Sended mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss
By +31626000230
So it does something.
But is this command about sms handling or only command to my provider?
The chars *0# are in the text content of the message and I didn't see User Header Definition.
Which makes it nice to study.
Is there more of such sms commands?
Like VCard.
NokDoc
there is another for sending ringtone data to phones, but you have to send hte notes as binary or hex or something and i cant remember the code as i never got it to work, i use logomanager

Hi Mr. Liam,
U know U can actually directly send the MyGnokii (024A) format.
But these sms's use a user data header indicator in the sms which 'triggers' the handling.
I mean that the sms is handled as normal text, no UDHI, still it does trigger something.

When i sent a message with *N#, i got the delivery report,
I thought my number would be hidden i inserted *#N# infront (read rumours about it) - but instead i got the delivery report...
Is the delivery report free, or is it a "service" from the service provider we have to pay for?

The phone just sends it as a normal message - nothing special!
Its a network service.. The smsc's parsing software must check for "*0#" and flag the message for (extended) delivery reporting!
Nothing special...

i've tried it on Orange (425-01), i got some strange results.
i've sent the message to myself (*0# message...).
then i recieved 2 messages, my sms and the normal report.
when i opened the message, the *0# didn't appear, and while the message is open on the screen, after a few seconds i heard the sound of incoming message again, but no message was recieved.
i did this twice and got the same results...
is it because i've sent it to myself?

It doesn't work on Vodafone Uk, tried a few different ways.
with delivery reports on/off and also to most of the uk networks including voda, orange and t-mobile.
Thanks though guys i'll give it a try next time i'm on holiday abroad that'll be when it's really useful.
The best sms trick is to send the unicode that switches 33xx off when you try to open the message.
  Does anyone know if there is a code to put in before your message if you want to send it as a priority and it appears straight on the other persons screen??

these messages are caller class0 messages, or newsflash. there isn't a code that you can include in your message to make it class0, these messages can't be sent from the handset, and you can't save them on your phone i think that they are messages from different type, like there is an icon message, or ringtone message.
anyway, you can send class0 messages using logomanager.

worked for me!
Greece - Cosmote
just put *0# without delivery reports: "Message #195 to nnnnnnnnnn sent at 2003-07-13 23:10:19 has been delivered at 2003-07-13 23:10:24"
doesn't work with unicode though :(
Works for me.
Good job as it's the only bloody way I can do it as o2 don't seem to support delivery reports. Which is a complete pain in the arse.
One question. Does this cost anything.
If so they're gonna get one HELL of a complaint from yours truly.

Hi all,
the*0# is a code that o2(BT) use to send a message report back to your phone, this is used because there text system is not set up for delivery reports, u have to switch off the delivery report option in text message settings.
Hope this helps
thanks

Regarding this Class0 message thing, there is something you can do if your on T-Mobile (haven't tested on any other networks yet).
Try putting !! at the beginning of your message.
I sent a message from a Nokia 7250 to a Nokia 7650 and the message came straight up on the screen.
I'd be interested in anyone elses experiances.

I've tried with a 6310 on Vodafone (U.K)
If you do send class 0 messages, they can really give people a shock and messages such as shutdown in progress often make peoples faces goes blue.

(i hope i haven't posted this before)
in finland, this *0# is changed to #K# or -K- depending operator.
radiolinja (244-05) uses -K- and sonera (244-91) #K# or something like that if i remember.
and this information is public, it comes with sim-card manual :D

About those class0 messages...
I managed to send a few but not by typing some characters in front of the message but by using a computer program calles PanuWorld FLASHMSG and a data cable...
With the prg. u can:
1. send class 0 messages that display directly on the screen of the receiver... ( works on dct4 phones as well)
2. send email, fax or voice mail notifiactions - where the receiver gets a message telling him that he's got email fax or voice mail..
This is cool because he doesn't see the sender's number and a character is displayed on the screen (works in dct4 phones)
3. send void messages. Here the receiver just gets a message alert tone but no message..( only dct3 or older phones)
4. send blinking messages (only dct3 or older phones)
Oh and... you can save class0 templates on the phone for later sending... (i mean just the header cause u can change the content with every new send)... pity dct4 phones don't have outbox...

i'm not sure which of the next words fits in english (for other languages translate it, in finland "kuittaus" will be -K- or *K# or something).
acknowledgement, aquittance, check, confirmation, quittance, receipt, set
and it can be -0- too.. it can be whatever operator wants it to be...
