I don't know if it's a new one or out for long, but I've now found an app providing the feature i've always missed from nokias.
With this app (http://fricike.kkovacs.hu/lookup.zip), you can search for numbers in your contacts!

if you have pcsuite, install the lookup.sis in the install dir with that, or Just send the file to your phone via ir or bluetooth and open it in your inbox.

the other files (as far as i understood) are ignorable for non-developer users. there are source code files, test icon files, etc in the .zip
i guess this app was written for educational purposes. but just a guess.
