Hi I hope I am doing this right. I am very new at this. But I jave some questions about unlocking my Nokia 3595. Like is it safe or will my phone go kaput? Do I have to remove the sim card? Is it legal? I know they sound like dumb questions, and probably are. :) But like I said I am very new to this.

Thank you,
Coyote5797

-the only risk in entering wrong unlock codes is losing the ability to unlock with codes. (that's happening after 5 wrong codes).

Do I have to remove the sim card?
-yes.

Is it legal?
-no. but in some cases it might void the warranty, depending on the contract you signed on with your provider.

they won't :) .

but you can say that about everything, for example imei changing is illegal, the company will not know - but it is still illegal...

Hi.

Just a few words of caution.

The IMEI Number (15 digits) is unique to your phone, it is sent to the Network as well as other information each time it "Logs ON"

IMEI means International Mobile Equipment Identifier/Identity.

This Number is the one used to enable blocking of lost/stolen phones from the Networks.

In the UK any unauthorised person found altering it faces up to 5 years in prison.

@James Watt

that post was about unlocking, which is not illegal, changing the imei was just an example i gave for an illegal operation...

but i'm sure that there are 100's of people that have changed the imei and were not caught, because if you change the imei to a number that doesn't exist in the network database (an imei number that is not "known" to any network in your country) it will be just like you got a new phone from other country. besides that, i don't think the police will try to find every single person that changes the imei number, i believe this law is one of the laws that are meant to scare people from doing certain things.
this is only my opinion, i don't encourage people to change the imei, and of course not to steal phones.
