forget about modem setup! It's not needed! I use my 7650 via bluetooth to connect my pc to the internet and I don't need it. Just select in your bt software (I have Widcomm) service named dial-up networking and fill in what you need. And as an addition, your connection can be added to standart dial up connection in networking! just add new connection, 7650 should be ther for use as modem..

Under your dial-up networking settings on your laptop, did you put in a dial number. For all nokia phones, it should be *99#. Try it.

okie, on your 7650. Did you define an access point to use when using ur 7650 as a modem. It will not use the access point that is being defined as those for WAP browsing on the phone.
Basically, u can check by going (on the phone) :
- Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > GPRS > Access Point
- The Access Point should be shown as the one your telco is using.

I can not thank you enough for your help..
at this point I go to
Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > GPRS > Access Point
the acces piont right now reads " wap.cingular "
silly question you say ...." Access Point should be shown as the one your telco is using" but how do I know what my telco access point is.. is it the telepohne number the phone will dail.. , my isp home page ? can I type in yahoo.com just for the hell of it?
also wanna make clear I wanna use the phone as a modem and not the cumputer as the modem ... example I wanna be able to go to the park and dail up with the laptop using the nokia as the modem.
again thanks for your help.

No worries, no question is silly. I understand that u want to use the phone as modem. Well usually u can just call ur telco and they will be able to provide for you. If not, u can just check on ur phone via Tools > Settings > Connection > Access Points. Then u will see a list of access points that are pre-configured on your phone. Highlight the one that u used to access GPRS on ur phone, then click on options and edit. Then you will need to scroll down until u see an optiion called "Access Point Name". Use that for your access point under "GPRS". If u still can't get connected, u need to call ur telco as they might have set a different APN for GPRS connection via phone modem. Cheers, mate!

115.2kbps is the connection speed between your phone and your laptop. You'll never get connected to the net at that speed. When using GPRS on my laptop I connect to the internet at around 40.1kbps. I'm on o2 UK and can use GPRS on my laptop/PC using the following steps:
1. Create a bluetooth dial-up networking service on your PC/Laptop using the bluetooth software. This will create a Dial-Up networking icon in "My Bluetooth Places".
2. Double click this icon to start the service. Confirm any pairing queries on phone and PC accepting the connection.
3. A dial-up properties window will pop up. On o2 prepay I use the following settings:
username: payandgo
password: password
number: *99#
4. When you click connect you'll notice the little box appear around the "G" under the signal strength bar on your phone. This shows you are connected to the GPRS network.
5. To access the "www" on your PC you need to go to control panel>internet options>connections, highlight "Bluetooth Connection" and click settings. Check the box that says "Use a proxy server for this connection" and put in 193.113.200.195 port 8080.
6. OK/Apply out of internet options. and you can access www.
NOTE the settings above are for o2 Prepay (or o2 online/Genie) only. method is the same however.
