Nokia is trying very hard to break through to the gamers market. So hard, in fact that they allready worked out a American price slash:

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/ngage/index.asp

Now, I know not many of you are gamers. But, the N-Gage for 200$? I got mine with contract, but if you aren't looking for a contract you can't go wrong paying 200$ for the N-Gage in my mind, even if you just focus on its features as a phone...

Anyway, just letting you guys know about this, I figure some of you here might be interested. Not all the gamers are really appreciating what the N-Gage has to offer, I think some people here are more inclined to do that, especially considering the fact you can get a new one for 200$.

No problem... I figured some people interested in phones might like the deal.

And I've been able to use USB to transfer everything. I still might get Bluetooth for my computer eventually but so far there is no need.

Its says 30 days free from T-mobile. Does that mean it is on contract??

no thats 30 days of free prepaid sevice. after that youy can migrat it to a contract if you still want the phone service and acsess to the gamer deck.

so would it come locked on t-mobile and with a t-mobile sim card? Would I need to get it unlocked

KrAzY3
25-10-2003, 06:14 AM
I have heard reports (but I can not verify) that N-Gages are naturally unlocked and I have yet to have anyone say they got theirs locked. Mine, came from Germany with contract and was unlocked. Likewise, the ones that shipped to EB came alternative AT&T and T-Mobile cards so I would assume that when you pay full price you aren't getting locked N-Gages. And this can now be considered full price.

NiX_
25-10-2003, 06:50 AM
Are you sure its not on contract because I'm thinking of buying one but I'm not sure if it comes with a contract, and what happens with this $100 instant rebate? Will I need to get it unlocked? Will it have a AT&T or T-mobile sim card with it? See I'm in NZ and if get this wrong theres not much I can do.

KrAzY3
25-10-2003, 02:42 PM
I would suggest trying to contact them personally to verify it.
But, from what I understand you would get a UNACTIVATED SIM card with the phone, from either T-Mobile, or AT&T. I can't personally verify this though.

I have heard no one, say they got one locked. And this is NOT a deal with contract. I do know this much, I wouldn't have mentioned it had it been with contract.

And, as far as the instant rebate goes, I haven't bought one so I can't verify that either. But it should be factored in instantly, rather than having to mail it off to the retailer.

What I would suggest is using the contact link on the bottom of this page: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/ngage/index.asp
To get more information.

Likewise, the deal is on EB (and perhaps other American stores as well):
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/groups/n-gage/default.asp

I'm sorry I can provide no more specific information. I can only suggest you inquire with them as to specifics.

One bit of warning though, some indications are that this deal might be over at the end of the month. I can't verify that either, and personally I think they will keep the N-Gage at 200$ in the US, but it is entirely possible that the price goes back up.

Tline155
26-10-2003, 03:11 AM
you will get an unactivated T-mobile sim with it but the first time you put any carier sim in it it will lock to that provider.

Hothing personal but how do ya know this? Did you actually buy one?

I just got a reply back from Gamestop

Dear customer,
No it does not come with a contract. When you order you can choose ATT or T-Mobile. The rebate is a card that comes in the box for the Ngage and you send it off with receipts for 2 games that you have bought for the Ngage. Those games must be purchased in the same transaction as the Ngage itself.
We value your business and hope to see you again soon at GameStop.com.

Ryan

Hello Gamestop Personnel,
I was wondering whether the N-Gage AT&T advertised for $299 with $100 instant rebate came on contract because it says 'Includes 30 days free AT&T phone service.' Also, does the N-gage come with a SIM card from AT&T? How does the $100 instant rebate work.

From Gin.

Either I was terribly mistaken (along with many others), or they gave you partially incorrect information.

ORIGINALLY the N-Gage was listed as 299$ with a rebate for 100$ if you buy two games. The new rebate (which is listed as instant) should be 100$ off WITHOUT requiring you to make any additional purchase. They are actually listing it as 199.99, and I would think they aren't even allowed to do that unless is it the actuall cost, not factoring in additional purchases.

It even lists the checkout price as:"Grand Order Total: $199.99 " if you add it to your basket. Either they are taking to some VERY shady and misleading advertising procedures, or there was some sort of misunderstanding concerning which deal you were interested in.

If you are that interested I would suggest you re-email them and specify that you want the new deal for the N-Gage at "199.99", and you wanted to insure it was both without contract and that it did not require any additional purchases. I would allude to another person indicating that you had to buy two games, to get this rebate and you don't want to do that (I do know for a fact that these two deals can't be used to together, but I suppose both are still valid and that might cause some confusion).

I would do this myself, but since the information I allready could be called into question best to do it yourself if you don't mind.

I hope there was just a bit of confusion... good luck!

Hello again,

I'm still not totally sure about the instant rebate. How is it 'instant' if you have to send away? Are you sure you have to send it away because when you put it in the basket it is $199 not $299.

Well, fuck them.... there are several articles and such reporting the price as 199$.

Here is a example:

"Unlike EB Games' promotional of offering the N-Gage for $199.99 when customers purchase the handheld along with two games, GameStop offers the system at a $100 dollar discount without any extra purchase requirements or as in the case of mobile service providers, without demanding a service contract. Customers receive the same N-Gage and a sim card containing a complimentary 30-day mobile service trial from AT&T Wireless or T-Mobile, only for $100 dollars less. "

Either they are jerking you around (for what ever reason)or they are misleading a lot of people. In either case, fuck them and I apologize. I wouldn't have advertised the N-Gage as being 200$ unless I believed it actually was.

aight boys. Ive just sent them an email cos they dont seem to be giving out too much info on this subject and also for my reference if i was to get one.

So when i get a reply i shall let you all know the outcome, if it is actually a legit offer i wont be hesitating to get one, especially at that price, £160 which includes the phone and all normal accessories in the box, tony hawks and delivery to here in the UK. Thats if it is actually $199 and $34.99 for the games

Hello,

So I buy it for $199 off the internet and then I get a Rebate Card in the box. Is that how it works?

Well I think this guy is just a ****ing dumbass. I will still buy it. If he is right, then it costs $199 and I get a rebate in the box, I dono what for. If he is wrong, then I'm getting charged $199. They can't really charge you more than that because it shows up as $199 in the basket. Even if I do get charged $299 it is still a bargain because you can't get them in NZ only off ebayNZ for $700NZ and $339US (incl postage) is $530NZ.

Note it does not come with a MMC card.

Murda_INC
27-10-2003, 02:35 AM
note, it DOES, if u read it comes with a 32mb memory card

"Entertain yourself on the way from A to B with your own personal soundtrack. The Nokia N-Gage game deck includes a high quality digital music player and a stereo FM radio, plus the PC software you need and a memory card just waiting for you to fill up. What's more, it's also a tri-band phone with support for email and multimedia messaging-that's a text message with an image and sound."

this is the email i sent
"Dear Gamestop.com Personel,

I was reading your offer on the N-Gage game deck for $199. And I was wondering what the catch is? Is there something else that has to be purchased for it to be $199 or is it plain and simply $199 for the Game Deck and all the normal extras you get in the box.

I personally don't understand how it is this cheap. If it is a legitimate offer which needs no extra purchases or anything along those lines for it to be at that price then I will get one.

Also could you provide me with information on how the instant rebate works?

Thank you for your time

Kindest Regards"

this is the reply i received today
"Dear Customer,

The reason why we off the Ngage so cheap, is because we stopped offering the rebate for $100. Thank you and have a great day.

Best Regards,
Your Game Informer Customer Service Agent , Tricia
www.game informer.com <http://www.game informer.com> "

so i shall be getting one

NiX_
27-10-2003, 03:59 AM
Yeh I have bought one. Well, the person I email said that it didn't come with an MMC card, but you can't trust that dumbass.

I think it comes with a 64 mb MMC as it says:

"The Nokia N-Gage game deck comes packed with a digital music player for MP3 and AAC files, and an integrated recorder for recording tracks. Use the Nokia Audio Manager software to load your own music onto your PC, and then load the tracks you want onto the 64 MB memory card. Plug in the hi-fi stereo headset, punch the short-cut button to start the music player, and head out the door. "

Hopefully we are right

NiX_

How come it says its says its from a www.gameinformer.com customer service agent

KrAzY3
27-10-2003, 06:37 AM
Well, once again perhaps some form of confusion lies in the original N-Gage rebate which was 100$ rebate off of the 299$ ticket price WHEN YOU BUY 2 games. The new deal supposedly was 199$ but excluded the other rebate. Confusing in the least but that's how I grasped it. I think some people there are being idiots in either case, but if they say they are going to charge you 199$, hard to charge more I suppose. But I apologize for the confusion.

Now, the MMC card thing is tricky as well. SOME shipped with them, some did not. The ones that say "FREE NOKIA GAME" on the box SHOULD have a 32 MB MMC Card which you can store what ever you want on. Some, however exclude this.

Likewise, some places made mention of a 64 MB card, but mine came with a 32 MB one so I can't verify that.

Either way I think even at 299$ the N-Gage was a damn good deal if you consider all the features. But it is a shame that the 199$ deal, along with some of the information has to be so damn confusing.

Hopefully the information I gave turned out to be somewhat helpfull... I felt progressively more confused after I saw their replies.

Oh, and gameinformer.com and gamestop appear to fall under the same umbrella, so to speak
