Hello all,
Let's hear what everyone wants in the NEXT VERSION of their favorite commy. It could be any kind of enhancement or any other kind of addition. But keep your ideas sensible. We know how wild human imagination can run sometimes! (Note: List doesn't have to be based on priority of features.)
This is what I WOULD love in my next commy:
1. A brand new interface. And I don't want them to make it more complex and confusing. It should be more consistant across applications (e.g. in some apps in 9210 / 9210i, the Close button closes the currently opened file while in others, it simply closes the whole app even if there is an open file). More visual clues would be better. Icons are already fine. Adding alpha to them would be good (but not a necessity).
2. A better pixel fillrate! Yes, the 92xx can display some pretty graphics and colors but I seriously think it needs better pixel fillrate to display smoother video / animations and more complex graphics. Have you ever tried playing a Flash (SWF) file on the Communicator that has lots of fast moving objects? If yes, then you'll kow what I'm talking about here. Faster video speed will allow it to process more pixels in less time, thereby increasing the overall speed of the device. Also, font smoothing (in Windows language) or font anti-aliasing should also be implemented. The Communicator screen is a high contrast LCD and would benefit from font smoothing.
3. A better audio processor = a better output sampling rate. The current sampling rate is fine for most audio applications but isin't enough when listening to MP3s or audio files with a high sampling rate. Make it something like the N-Gage. It's sound output quality is quite good.
4. A stereo headset (with the option to connect a standard phono headphone). Has anyone seen the 5510 / N-Gage Nokia cable that converts the proprietary Nokia headset connector to phono? Something similar would be good. It would allow the Commy to also function as a standard music (MP3) player.
5. Connectivity using GPRS + Bluetooth. This is pretty much expected. This is something most people miss. The new Communicator should support the latest commuication protocols / technologies. After all, it's a Communicator, isin't it?
6. PC Link-up using USB / Ird / Bluetooth / Firewire. Everyone will agree that the serial port connectivity is a real pain.
7. Friendly SDK (Source Development Kit). Everyone knows that hardware means nothing if there is no good software on it (a classic example is the 11 years old Nintendo Gameboy. It competed and defeated every handheld that came after it and continued to do so for constant 7 years! Hardware was primitive but software was not.) A good SDK will encourage software developers to program lots of software within an easy and fast development cycle. I believe that the current 9200 Series SDK is fine enough and Nokia just simply needs to continue with the trend.
Wow ... that was a big wishlist, wasn't it? For now though, it is enough. Let's see what others have got to say.
Regards,
Kamran
