I wonder….

Would it be possible, with the latest technology (smartphone with camera+GPRS or UMTS) to have a conversation and real live streaming video???

That would be my next phone!!!

For you to be able do this function you need to upgrade to a better network.. currently the asian and european networks are running at 2.5G using the GSM network ( Global system for mobile communications ) but this is running on a TDMA format. were in time is the contraint for data communication ... unlike in Japan the are using the CDMA format were in larger packets of data can be transfered at higher speeds... rating at around 2Mbps.. at this rate digital video streaming is possible.. as what you wanted direct video conference is possile... if the GSM network upgrades to this format then most of the phone sold now are in the 3rd generation or 3G..... all we have to do is wait

As of now the GSM networks are undergoing changes and upgrades from GSM to 3GSM as part of the project of leaving the 2.5 G and entering the 3G communication era... all we have to do is wait... in a year or so this can be a reality

Hutchinson Communications launched there 3G network over here in Australia a few months back. From what ive seen from the demo models in the shops and friends of mine that have them, im happy with my 3650 and my gage ne day. The framerate is very slow and the costs arent that much better either.

When they first came out they had a good deal going where you could sign up up with a friend and have free vid calls to that person for the period of your contract (but there where rules/times). In Australia there are 3 phones the 3 network has to offer. The first is a motorola a920(quite large) and very poor function wise (compared to Symbian nokias) and 2 NEC phones. The e606 i think (looks ok for a flip fone) and the e808n (reminds me of a giant clam from "The Little Mermaid").

Overall i think its a great technology that you can see the person you are talking to and there surroundings, but from what iv'e seen, in my opinion i would wait until they get better b4 i go and buy 1 :)

Maybe they need to use the higher frequencies in order to get a faster more fluent framerate for video. Atm im sure 3 Network in Aus is using 850-950 Mhz band.... maybe the 1800 or 1900Mhz band would be better????? Microwave is at 2.4Ghz and that is good for constant video transmitting.

i think ill go for p900, my contract dont end on my 3650 till february, give time for pirce to settle, also im on quite a high value contract so i should get a severly subsided price on upgrade so thats no worry, only phone to sway me would be the 7700, nokia fianlly made the perfect phone!!! (except looks/size)

actually, 7700 is slightly bigger than 3650 a bit. its ard 1 cm longer, 2 cm wider, same thickness, roughly. yup, best fone. but i hate to do wifout the keypad, lots of getting used to i'd sae.

p900 is a good fone, good choice.

I work for a japanise company and we have people over from japan every now and then. One of them brought there flip phone with them and the picture quality was a lot better than the one on my 3650. the only problem is that with the video chat that he uses is that the camera is right above the screen and you can only take pictures facing you and not in front of you.

The 3G phones are just a test at the present moment but what I could say is that all the Symbian OS phones are just introduction to it. Probably, after a few years when all over Europe, Asia and Australia the new system is build, most of the ppl will change their phones. Secondly, 7700 is a great conscept of a phone with feautures from the future. That's only the beginning :)

well, i'd sae 7700 is a fone with all the functions of the present packed into 1 big ulgy fone.

Nokia have allready moved into the piloting phase of mobile phone TV with the Nokia Streamer and the 7700 see here for more info (http://www.mobile9.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=210) and while your there join up!! i think this would really put nokia with the 7700 into the history books, lets hope they get it out there soon!! as i hear the NEC tv phone using totally differenttechnology ismuted for release at the end of next year, so as we've seen with rival technology that basically does the same thing, first come is the one to be adopted!!
