I was just rereading the radar detector thread and was wondering if it would be possible to use the infrared to create a picture....infrared vision, perhaps. This kind of thing already exists, right? Or can it be used as a thermometer?!? I saw one on the internet...just look it up. Couldn't progz be made for that? :???:

well, the camera gotta haf infra red to do tt. 3650's cam and infra red are in 2 dff places!

i guess i was thinking u could use the IR like a radar but apperently i'm wrong.......

theres no way tis can be done, i believe its hardware prob.

Hi ppl,
This is my first post to the gang ... but i've been reading for quite some time now ... this group seems to have a lot of intelligent earthlings around ... y dont all of us put our heads together n try n build a software that can take infrared pics or better have a radar like function ... waiting to hear .... cheers !!!!

Hi ppl,
this group seems to have a lot of intelligent earthlings around ...
was this a joke? or have you been reading a different forum than i? ;)
well anyway, it's probably not possible even if you were the god of programming, because the hardware just can't do that.
you can test that infrared picture thing for yourself. Go to a dark room, bring something that emits ir-light (remote control for example) and try to take pictures while pressing the buttons in your remote. Well i can tell you what happens: the pics are just black.

thats not what i meant.. of course u can't take pics while the light is off....i'm talking about heat sensitive....u ever watch cops and see a night chase from a helicopter. Isn't that infrared as well? i'm not saying that it will take pics from a helicopter but a very scaled down version is possible, right? I realize that it is probably still a hardware issue but....it is possible to do. And no one has answered my other question and that is if it can be used as a thermometer? I'm not good enough to write a prog like that.... i'm new to this still and am just bouncing ideas around. :D

yeah it's IR also but i think that's even more not-possible that the nightvision thing.

cool app you came with there but i think that never will be possible since ir is just a small little light that send out ir signals so it`s not a lens=P but maybe some could use the lens and eks make the screen light green or somthing or the same effetc that a ir cam have on the display but think you not could see any better in the dark with it=P

Ok.. i understand it's not a cam and that it won't work. Then how about a prog that f*cks w/ video. On my little handy cam there are various modes. Can the camera be altered like that? e.g.monochromatic vison or u know...just something that messes w/ the input so that it looks diff on the screen. That being the case is there ne way to remove the current lens and replace w/ a better 1 or maybe a better cam altogether? I realize thats engineering but......if anyone nose let me no. :-P

ok on da infared thing i dont think u can do much because if its intensity and power now da change the lens / camera idea is great i been thinking about asking that also becuase i know my lens is going to get scratched
i think u can becuase repair centers should be able to do it so if they can we can to rite? i think in about a year when theres way better cams then wats in my 3650 i am going to buy a replacement for 1 of those new cams and try to install it HEHE any feed back has any one all ready tried it or is willing to?

Hello again .... well im no programming god ... but lets put it this way ..... wat if we get an external attachment of infrared lens for the camera & then probably try n write a program that can enable a clear capture of images .... that wud mean a bit of hardware & a bit of software .... please suggest

in fact, i juz changed the white part of the 3650 recently, and it costs under $10 if its under warr. (st least in my place) now, i leave the sticker on the camera lens on. hehe.

OK...well. does ne 1 know who could suppy lenses? I'm thinking if you replaced da cam for under 10 bucks it was the exact same part. Made by nokia. I wonder if canon offers anything that ssmall that would work w/ it. of course i'm no engineer so i would have to get someone to put it in. Reguardless, can an app be written to mess w/ the video? i would think it could and i'm going to attempt it. However if ne 1 knows of 1 it would be easier to improve on some 1 else's....rather then write my own. also...do they make a flash? That would be helpful.

well....i've researched the whole idea and while it sounds cool it's just impossible to do for under $20,000US. doesn't that suck!!!! oh well, i'll be working on the next fantasy idea.....due out next month.. lol

Hi again .... there was a post in this thread asking me to take a pic in the dark by clicking the remote buttons ..... to my utter surprise I can see the light its not just dark !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... can this lead to any developments .... I m using FLEXICAM.

I thought you where bullshitting, but I tested and it´s true. Don´t really know what this means and what we can use it for cause this isn´t my field. Someone ?
I have screens on it but no need to post them cause you just need to try it to see for your self. Can post them if someone really wants it tho.

well to touch on a couple points I read here.... every ccd camera (including 3650s and every other cam phone) is sensitive to infrared light. meaning that in a pitch black room if you were to have an infrared light, with a high output (they are usually made up of about 50 infrared l.e.d.s), you will see IN THE DARK!! and those helicopter cams are almost always night vision, wich is different from infrared vision, night vision amplifies existing VISIBLE light on a phosferous screen creating that monochromatic effect. hope I helped

Thats very interesting guys....I saw cams for sale on the web but they on had 10 to 30 leds. Good news is that they were only like $100 to $200 bucks.(US) think an attachment could be made almost like an infrared flash. Do they make a flash for the 3650? If someone has a pic that doesn't look that bad, post it....I'ld like to see it and others can see as well. I can't go into a room right now and try it but i will when i get home. And if this is true then maybe it can still be done. A phone that takes pictures in the dark....lol! now that would be a sight.

WTF :D
i tried that before posting it, and i didn't see shit, but hey gotta try it again if you're right.
maybe should try using some other remotes :D

well i haven't seen much video taken by helicopter cams, but if i remember right they show warm things (car tires/engines, humans etc) brighter than cooler objects, and that's ir.
but i had wrong information about that ccd-thing, thanks for correcting.. obviously remote controls one or two ir leds don't help much

u know what though....If it wasn't for your joke i don't think anyone would have tried it. But they did and apperently on some level it works. I don't know how the cam in this phone could possibly be sensitive to ir light but if it is then woo hoo hell yeah....

Pipes024:
If you only want it to look like it is a heat sensitive picture then this is an good exempel:

it´s taken with CameraFX.

Hey all, have read it, it's interesting, and have a thought... Don't know what your phone looks like, but it must have got light, for display etc. like at least 10 to 20 led's, maybe you can connect some i.r. led's to them, and you would have light in the dark... Wheil recording...
Hope it helps,
nice thought to record in the dark with a phone....

i don't want a picture thats been made to look like a heat sensitive cam...I want it to actually be a heat sensitive thing....hence the reason i said it would be very expensive earlier. I just thought that if you can see something w/ more infrared leds then maybe that would work as night vision. I don't think any of this will turn into anything. It's just kind of a brain teaser. Make people think about possiblities. Thats all. :D

Your absolutely right only I want to clarify that 3650 is uscing a CMOS camera wich is sensitive to Inra red lights CCDs need a little twiking to be sensitive to Infra red lights

AFAIK, CCD sensors are sensitive to IR. Most digicams have an IR filter to block the IR infront of the sensor. I have a Sony digicam (F717) and Sony camcorder that let you take IR pics (video for the camcorder) with a switch of a button, which basically moves the IR filter out of the way. So technically, one can replace the IR filter on the phone's camera with some glass, and can take IR or 'x-ray' pix. Of course, you'd need other filters if you wanna use it in daylight.
BTW, I don't have the 3650 yet, just reading up on it.
