can i flash 6510 with 6500 flash?
6500 = 8310 with a flip
So, if you want to flash your 6510 to 6500, you have to convert the LCD first. From 6510 to 8310.
If you want the active-flip function of 6500, you can only flash it with 8310's V4.04.
Also, you need a housing with active-flip to make it works.

Hello :)
The 6510 has way better software (more stable!) and also a nicer display with higher resolution.
But you can change the display of the 6510 to that of a 8310, then flash the phone with either 8310 or 6500 flash file... after that you have basically a 8310. When you add a original Nokia 6500 cover (which comes only in one colour! Creme... not everyone's taste) you will have a Nokia with an active flip, that allows you to answer a call by flipping it open and hang up by closing the flip.
I had a 6510 with such cover (still have the cover here!)... see it at this part of my website:
http://aod-thanh.tripod.com/mobile.html
allow that page to load, it's got quite some pictures on it. You also need to make a tiny modification on the phone's upper end to get the cover fitting on it, similar to make a 8310-cover fit. Don't mod the cover, do it with the phone! You can then use any 6510, 8310 and 6500 covers.......
Kind regards.....

@Thanh,
You said "When you add a original Nokia 6500 cover (which comes only in one colour! Creme... not everyone's taste) you will have a Nokia with an active flip, that allows you to answer a call by flipping it open and hang up by closing the flip."
No, it is wrong! You said it yourself in your website that "the flip has here no active function, just to protect the keys and look more elegant"
The fact is, no active-flip function unless it is a 6500 or 8310 with V4.04.
Best regards

Hello :)
Please, do me and all the others a favour.. before you comment on something, READ it ALL first!
I quote myself: "then flash the phone with either 8310 or 6500 flash file... after that you have basically a 8310. When you add a original Nokia 6500 cover (which comes only in one colour! Creme... not everyone's taste) you will have a Nokia with an active flip"
As i say there clearly THEN FLASH THE PHONE........ where on earth did i mention in my website that i flashed something???? Nowehere, exactly. And that is why my flip wasn't active, because the phone was still an original 6510, it just had a 6500 COVER on it! But still original 6510 software............
Please, read again, and THINK..... then post, thank you.
Kind regards....

@Thanh,
Please don't get mad, I just want to clarify one point: "The fact is, no active-flip function unless it is a 6500 or 8310 with V4.04."
You did mention to flash the phone to 8310, but you did not mention what version. I just want to add one point that only V4.04 will give you active-flip.
Also, the active-flip is not 100% like 6500, because you can answer and end the call, but you will not get Lock and Unlock keypad function like original 6500.
:-P :-P :-P

Hello again :)
I am not mad... don't worry :) About the version, i don't know.... i never saw a "live" 6500 but only converted 8310's which all had indeed active flips... but i did not check the software versions (in fact, 4 of them at one shop).
The 6500 was never sold in Thailand, i heard it was ever only in Hong Kong and China available... not too sure about that tough. Mine was an ordinary 6510 which i just put that cover on because of the look. I still got that cover, but the phone is long gone.......
I was also looking on the net if i could find an original (!) 6500 flash file... to no avail, i guess that phone was not too popular. Also it was ever only available in that one colour. But here in MBK centre they used to import the covers from Hong Kong and put them on 8310's to sell those at a higher price as "special edition" 8310's. The covers alone were freakin' expensive! Mine cost me 900 Baht.... as opposed to an ordinary (original!) 8310 cover at 420 Baht.......
Kind regards.....

@Thanh,
My friend, 6500 flash = 8310 flash. You can use 8310 flash in 6500. They are the same.
The only difference is the EEPROM that to control the active-flip.
I have both original 6500 and also a 8310 converted to 6500.

Hello again :)
I don't want to kick off a huge discussion now, but they are NOT the same.
You mentioned yourself.... "that only V4.04 will give you active-flip.
Also, the active-flip is not 100% like 6500, because you can answer and end the call, but you will not get Lock and Unlock keypad function like original 6500."
So.. there seem to be a difference, right?
And even if the difference is only the different model number. Sure you can run both flashes on either phone, but "same" and "identical" are two pairs of shoes.
It is like the 6610-7210 thing, the phones look different due to a different keypad layout (hardware) but they share the same (!) functions because they run identical (!) software..... with the only difference being a different model code :)
I retire hereby from this thread.......
with regards....

Final thread to make myself clear:
1) 6500 can flash with 8310 firmware, because they use the same firmware
2) Even 8310 can have active-flip function when it is using V4.04 firmware, but only partial, not full. Because original 6500 not just answer and end the call with the active-flip, but to lock and unlock the keypad as well. I guess it is controlled by the EEPROM, not the firmware alone, so you will get partial active-flip function.
In summary:
6500 firmware = 8310 firmware, they are the same
6500 EEPROM # 8310 EEPROM, they are identical, but not the same
