What are the differances between these 4 models: 3310, 3315, 3390, 3395.

As it is, I believe the 3310 and the 3390 are identical to each other and the 3315 and 3395 are identical to each other. The differance between the 331x and 339x is that the 339x's were made for use in the USA. I don't see what differance that would make in needing a new model unless they only operate on one frequency. I'm not sure of the particulars, but that's the only thing that makes sense without knowing the story behind it. But what the differances between the 33x0 and the 33x5 are, I don't know. By looking through the forum it seems that you can flash a 33x0 with a 33x5 (not sure if the reverse is true or not, I think it is, can't remember at the moment). But then I've also seen people talking about flashing a 3310 to a 3330. So if that's possible, can you also flash a 3315 to a 3330?

If you can explain these things to me, I'd appreciate it. I don't have nearly enough time to go searching through the forum/net for the answers. As it is, I'm being called to take my daughter out to Target for Gods only know what.

Thanks.
Sincerely,
gorgarath

Hi, the main difference between these models is that 3310, 3315 and 3330 operate on GSM 900/1800 frequencies and 339x operate on GSM 1900.
3310 and 3330 are sold in European market (and maybe somwhere else ;)), 3315 is designed for Asia and 339x are for America.
3310 and 3315 look almost identical, except for the case (3315 looks alike 3410, but with one Navi key). 3315 has all the features of 3310 and some other:

auto keypad lock
picture message and clip-art editor
timed profiles
customizable sms tone alert

Generally, every 3310 can be converted into 3315 and vice versa, and no flashing is required. Search the forums, this topic has been discussed almost everywhere.
3330 is different from 3310 as it has more flash memory (4MB, not 2), WAP, animated screensavers, the option to vibrate first then ring and more bugs :). I mean that 3330's latest firmware is 4.50, and is dated 12-10-01, while 3310's latest version is 6.07 (dated 17-06-03).
You cannot easily upgrade 3310 or 3315 into 3330, for that you should change (resolder) the flash IC.
As for 3390 and 3395 I don't have exact information (btw, why don't you visit http://www.nokiausa.com ?). I suppose that 3390 is like 3310, and 3395 is like 3330.
339x cannot be converted into 3310/3330 and vice versa simply because they use different RF circuits. Maybe you could flash 3390 with 3310's firmware, but the phone wouldn't work.

EDIT:
As for converting 3315 into 3330 -- it's the same as 3310 into 3330. Since version 5.?? 3310 and 3315 flashes are identical. They differ only in 'product code bit'. But I see no reason in converting 3315 into 3330, because:
a) changing flash IC is required
b) you lose some useful features (e.g. auto keylock) while getting wap and animated screeensavers
c) 3330 is just more buggy. My old 3330 used to hang or reset several times a week. I upgraded it to 3350 and now I have much more stable phone with bigger screen resolution, enhanced keyboard and some useful software features (auto keylock, for example).

Thanks for the info. I figured that's what it was like between the 331x and 339x. I just wasn't sure what all the extra options were and was a little pressed for time when I was looking. As it is, I'm surprised I'm on right now. Too bad I gotta get off in another minute. I really need to get my laptop fixed so I'm not stuck borrowing a pc to look this stuff up on. I'm looking at the differant things I can do with the 3395 I have for her. I figured it would be better to stick with the 3395 over the 3390, but wasn't sure. But that def. cleared things up for me. Thanks again!
