Im running Firmw-3.30 on with kingmax 256 mmc card -

it shows spare space ok

I can copy from the pc via usb lead no probs.

MP3s seemed to work fine

BUT.....

When i install stuff to mmc card with the app installer, it gets half way then throws up an error such as `error: app closed` - im then stuck with half an installed program that i cannot delete unless i go picking the drives with fexplorer..

Anyone else experienced this????

Anyone got any ideas??

I also noticed that card has to be formatted in FAT (FAT16) not FAT32 or NTFS (obviously)

i have a 256 kingmax and it works fine!

the only probs i've noticed are:

1. the defult mp3 player takes ages to load.
2. some of the shit i put on my phone disappears off the menu after being connected to usb. i have to restart the fucker to get em back on the menu. (if you use launcher you can get round that problem.)
3.its just slightly slower loading up.

apart from that its great!!

This disease is contagious. My Kingmax 256MB MMC Card is having probs.

1. The phone detects the MMC Card, 250MB Free Space
2. I copy files from the PC to fone via IRDA/BT no probs
3. I install apps/games from PC to fone via IRDA/BT no probs
4. I copy pictures from the PC to fone via IRDA/BT no probs
5. I copy *.sis or *.jar to the fone via IRDA/BT then install ON THE FONE to MMC Card... problems!
6. I copy *.jpg or *.bmp or *.gif to the fone via IRDA/BT then save the pics on the fone to the MMC Card ... problems
7. After some errors like "Cannot complete write to disk", the phone says its corrupt. If I go to Extras -> Memory, error message says "Memory Card corrupt. Do you want to format?". If I select yes, it formats ... if I say no, everything is back to "normal" as in I can view the files.
8. I can't even install the Blizzard Installer App. When I install it from the PC via IRDA/BT, and I copy the *.blz files to the E:/ root directory (via IRDA/BT). When I install the *.blz file, it never extracts successfully.

PS: Sometimes it can't even write the thumbnail pics in those "_PAlbTN" folders saying "Cannot complete write to disk"

Why is this? I need to use the MMC Card damnit!

sometimes, the blz wun get installed properly if there are mp3s in E: root dir. at least, tts the case for my ngage. after a format, it worked great.

Is it normal for it to seem to be in a working state, if you format it on a Canon Digital Camera instead of formatting on the phone or USB 6in1 Card Reader/Writer?

NB: The Canon Digital Camera uses SD and MMC Cards!

Please reply asap,

i wouldnt recommend u format on pc, or other devices, other than ur 6600. yea, it takes v long to format, but its safer.

or u can try wif the cam, but def not on the pc.

These are the procedures I tried and status:

1. Format on Nokia 6600 (Failed)
2. Format second time on Nokia 6600 (Failed)
3. Format on USB 6 in 1 Card Reader/Writer using FAT32 (Failed)
4. Format on USB 6 in 1 Card Reader/Writer using FAT (Unstable)
5. Format on USB 6 in 1 Card Reader/Writer using FAT and writing system files on PC (Unstable, Failed)
6. Format on Canon Digital Camera (Failed)
7. Format on Canon Digital Camera, then format on Nokia 6600 (Failed)
8. Format on Canon Digital Camera, write system files on USB 6 in 1 Card Reader/Writer and insert into Nokia 6600 (Still in testing procedures, current status suggests success and stability - any failures or instability or corruption will be posted and notified ASAP)

Maybe this is why Nokia say 128MB is the max?

DAMN ME FOR JUST SAYING THAT!!!

I know, but I can't live with 128 Mb. 256 (for me) is actually the minimum :-P for all the games/apps/images/vids/babes/porn lol

I was actually looking forward for a 512 mb mmc card, none in Australia. So forced to buy 256 (not happy when i couldnt get it working, sorta happy now :D )

Kristoficus, try restarting the phone again. my 32mb complimentary mmc card sometimes does that with SonicN and UltraMP3.

Try ...

I bought a second 256mb mmc card because my first MMC (kingmax) wasn't working. Now my Kingmax is working - fine and stable, just two days before my second mmc card is due for arrival. Well, I'm going to have two 256mb MultiMedia Cards now!

Have a look at the pic. Do you know what brand it is?

Thanks!

Did you do anything special to get it to work, or did it just "fix itself"? I'm having the exact same problems you described with my Kingmax 256mb MMC on my 6600, and I'm quite annoyed!

The card seems to read fine in my camera, and I've run chkdsk from my PC (via the camera) and it seems happy enough:

The type of the file system is FAT.
Volume Serial Number is 2BAA-7FF4
Windows is verifying files and folders...
File and folder verification is complete.
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.
I'm about to try a factory reset, but I don't want to if I can avoid it!

Slightly similar problem - my ngage works fine with my PQI 128mb MMC that's been in my 3650 the last few months.

But it doesn't show up as a drive with the USB cable unless the official 16mb or 32mb is in? :S

Is this an errror due to the card, due to having copied games on or what? :S

My 32mb that came with it doesn't like being used in the PC either

Reformatted it again, tried it in another ngage, same result.

Oh well, have to use cable for 32mb (that should be in my 3650), and MMC reader for the ngage one! funny reversal

Hi nk6600,
I've the same MMC as you (the Kingmax 256) and similar problems...I've tried formatting with the phone (nokia 6600) and with an external usb card reader/writer several times, but the FAT of the MMC seems to be corrupted. The phone says "cannot write to disk" or "memory corrupted" when I try to install programs via Nokia PC Suite & Bluetooth. Problems also when installing .sis files copied directly to the card from the USB r/w.
Which model of Camera have u used to format the MMC? Do you think this is the only solution to avoid this problem? Is you MMC still stable?
Thanks in advance and sorry 4 my bad english.

My Kingmax 256MB MMC Card works average on N-Gage. I doesn't work at all on my previous Nokia 6600.

NOKIA 6600: What I realized (based on my experiences) that I needed to format the MMC with a Digital Camera before using it on the Nokia 6600. However, once inserted in the 6600 ---- DO NOT FORMAT IT! Just use it straight away. Create folders like "Images", "Sounds", "Other", "Videos" and "System" manually. For Blizzard Games, the Kingmax somehow doesn't like them. You have to copy the non-installer files onto the MMC manually via a USB 6in1 Card Reader/Writer from the PC. Otherwise it just corrupts the memory, and you have to format it on the Digital Camera again ...

NOKIA N-Gage: For N-Gage, it seems to work alright. All I did was format it on the Digital Camera (I didn't go so well with my 6600, so that's why I did this first) and shoved it in my N-Gage. Formatted it, and for the first time ... it said "Formatted Successful" not "Cannot complete write to disk". After that, the MMC seems alright ... except that Blizzard can't extract the BLZ games onto the MMC. You have to copy the non-installer files onto the MMC manually either via USB or Card Reader/Writer.

Hope this helps!

Hi Cristiano,
I used a Canon Digital Camera IXY Digital, and it features a SD slot. However, a MMC can be used within a SD slot. After formatting it on the digital camera, everything is pretty stable ... except you may sometimes have problems installing apps/games on the phone itself. If you want to install SIS, install it through Nokia PC Suite or something. The Blizzard App Installer doesnt seem to be successful in extracting the games to the MMC. It constantly fails ...

It seems that this card is not fully compatible with this phone, everywhere I see posts of people talking about problems of Kingmax MMC and 6600...
Unfortunately I haven't a Canon Camera with MMC or SD slot, I'll try to find one...
But I think it would be better to sell it (I think it should work fine with cameras or other peripherals) and get another MultiMedia Card...
I'm tired of trying formatting hundreds of times without good results...I just wanna use my phone in its full potential, 32Mb are not enough for me...

Well. Ok, I admit - Kingmax has compatibility issues with N-Gage and 6600.

But any Digital Camera with a SD or MMC slot will do. Doesn't have to be Canon. I used Canon because I could "permanently borrow" it from my sister lol

Find anything, like a PDA or any device that uses the MMC or can host one ... and format it. Once inserted in your phone, don't format it again!

Thanks again nk_au, I'll try to find any device with MMC slot and see if it helps me too ;)
